Serie A is just the same as the Premier League – goal difference comes first.

So as it says in the article that you linked, victory for Napoli over Lazio on Sunday will leave them on equal points but as Lazio’s goal difference (+31) at kick-off will be 13 better than Napoli’s (+18), they need to hammer the Roman team to snatch third place and get in the Champions’ League.

No need to apologise – it might turn out that I am wrong and they have changed the rules.

The article on worldsoccer.about.com is undated, so no way of knowing if it is out of date.

If the Wikipedia entry is correct, then with victory Napoli would finish third since they won 1-0 in the away fixture against Lazio so their head-to-head results record would be better and their head-to-head goal difference would be better also.

That's why I'm interested QM as I think if it based on H2H Napoli are a cracking bet at 6/5 but if it's based on GD then it's leave alone

Almost all the sites that I can find in English are saying that a draw will do Lazio but Napoli have to win to snatch third, so it would appear that Wikipedia is right and their head-to-head results would give it to the side from Naples.

I suspect that they are 6/5 to win because the bookies know that Lazio will sit back and play on the break whilst Napoli have recently drawn with relegated Parma 2-2, scraped past Cesena 3-2 and lost last week to Juventus 3-1.

Lazio had a tough cup final followed by a Rome derby on Monday night and therefore I juts think Napoli will be that little bit stronger.
