Except almost everyone in this board except the few deluded 'regulars' were pretty realistic on Frimpong's chances of making it. Like I've always said if that kid didn't spout so much **** on twitter, he'd be as talked about among the fans as Amauri Bischoff.
My comment about frimpong's thread dropping off the face if the Earth was tongue in cheek. I guess you you must have misread my sarcasm.
Frimpong does have the talent but major injuries and questionable commitment were the main issues. He did show signs but he really needed a longer injury free run, unfortunately his chances seems slim with us now.
That is not sarcasm though, you really had faith in him coming through even though he showed no promise what so ever.
To say he showed no promise is a little too harsh. He was unfortunate due to some really serious injuries and sometimes it takes a player time to adjust and come through. Not many players will hit the ground running like Gnarby, but bear in mind this is only the start for him, say if he has a run of 2-3 poor games, then what?
The comment about the thread 'dropping off' was sarcasm, I thought that was pretty obvious. Also I don't think it was 'deluded' to think that he could have made it. As Lazarus has pointed out, he made some good progress before his knee injuries. What concerns me though that he seems to think he's some kind of bigshot, when he'd probably be better just keeping his mouth shut and working hard. Anyway, this thread is supposed to be about Gnabry. So probably best not to get into a back and forth about Frimpong. I think we pretty much agree that he should be nowhere near the first team at the moment.
If Gnarby was English, there would be no debate over him being ahead of the OX. Even for me Gnarby is ahead of the OX, OX has been pretty much average for us so far, he had some bright moments in his first season, but last season didn't really offer much.
Ox was looking really good though at the beginning of this season, his injury came at a bad time for him. Gnabry is definitely ahead of him at the moment. But Ox can play on the left too.
Frimpong came through at a time when that tank like DM was all the rage. People hoped he would be another Essien, or Makalele. Unfortunately, as perhaps Tiote has proved, tactics have moved on and that position seems to be a bit of a luxury. The deep lying midfielder seems to have to be able to play with he ball, as well as be a stopper. It also helps if they are tall and good in the air. Frimpong just is a victim of changing philosophies. He may be a very good enforcer, but teams need more out of their DMs now.
