Earnie Shavers, the former world heavyweight title challenger who has died aged 78, was widely regarded as the greatest single-punch hitter in one of the blue riband division’s most celebrated eras. The chunky, shaven-headed fighter who in 1977 pushed an ageing Muhammad Ali to the brink of defeat, in a punishing clash for the undisputed title, also came within one punch of winning the World Boxing Council crown when flattening Larry Holmes with a monstrous right hand in the seventh round of their Las Vegas showdown two years later. The badly hurt champion later said it was the hardest he was ever hit. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/sport/box...pc=U531&cvid=9e94a54c899c47d99716f8c030e4d782
This piece from the article is fabulous.... The title contender James Tillis, who outpointed a somewhat faded Shavers in June 1982, gave a memorably chilling description of what it was like to be on the receiving end of Shavers’s bludgeoning right fist: “He hit me, man, and knocked me face down on the canvas. “I was in the land of make-believe. I heard saxophones and trombones sounding in my ear, with one low-pitched note like a bagpiper who fell over dead with no one to stop [it]. I saw little blue rats scamper out to smoke cigars, drink whisky and eat spam sandwiches.” A badly shaken Tillis somehow managed to scramble to his feet. “But all I could see [of Shavers] was three of those bald heads… so I grabbed the middle head – luckily for me, it was the right one.”

I spoke to my GP, a couple of years ago and he actually put me off the idea. He said they don't do the old finger up the arse anymore. Instead you have an injection to the prostate to take samples and that usually leads to a bad infection. He'd put me off the idea straight away, but I going to follow this up, because both my Dad and his brother succumbed to prostate cancer and its complications. It spread to their bones and that was that really. Also, check your gonads for any lumps or discolouration. Do it
Kempton. Your doctor has taken a very pessimistic line. I was diagnosed in 2017, first a rectal examination, then blood test to determine PSA level. It was high on the Gleeson scale, so then I had the biopsy to confirm cancer was present. I did not get an infection after the biopsy, I am sure it can happen but it is far from a given. Checking for lumps is also great advice. 1 in 4 men have prostate issues as they get older, I can only reiterate, if in doubt, the sooner you get checked the better.
I get a D.R.E(Digital Rectal Examination) approx every 6 months so I'm not sure why your Dr is telling you they don't do it anymore? The biopsy would normally only take place if your prostrate felt 'abnormal' or an MRI scan revealed any suspicious lesions. I've had ongoing issues for 3 or 4 years now with raised PSA and enlargement but they have never suggested taking biopsy as it's basically a last resort and as has been said it determines the grade of any cancer present? Maybe best to seek the advice of a different G.P because the one you have spoken to has clearly put fear in you(I'd be equally as concerned if I'd have been told this)...Don't let this deter you from getting the routine PSA and examination done because you stand a slightly higher risk due to family history as do I. If they won't do a rectal examination then take up Chazz's offer of Rudolpho carrying out the procedure(He'll get to the bottom of it so to speak)
Thanks for the advice, I have been dragging my feet on this for a couple of years. I'd better my finger out
