Not in a cup competition, I watch football to be entertained. I know Liverpool are a better team than Northampton Town, don't need to be a genius to know that but by scrapping pens you give the stronger team an immediate advantage. They already want to scrap replays in domestic cups and now this. Sooner or later they'll be no point in lesser clubs even entering these competitions

Blatter is a bitter fool he wouldn't be saying get rid of penalties if Bayern won the shoot out or any other team. Blatter is a slime ball. Penalties is the fairest way to decide who wins a final if scores are level after extra time.

This is actually pretty good. Means that neither team can play for a draw. A variation would be to do it at the start of the match, which gives more time to score

why not the golden goal and take away the offside flag? would be less complicated, fast and exiting

I like the idea of no off sides in extra time, certainly might help make extra time more open, for me penalties are great, we lost the biggest match in our history on pens having dominated the match (play off final v City), but they were the rules and we lost fair and square as have England on so many occasions, no one can deny that that they are exciting. So many good points on ths thread, there are far more important issues in the game than penalties, the biggest being why is Blatter still in charge!

There is nothing fairer than penalties.

Some of the ideas being touted all have massive flaws. What if the golden goal is offside or doesn't cross the line? What if playing until a golden goal goes in results in large damaging injuries to players? What if the ice hokey method (player gets ball at halfway line and runs at keeper) results in the keeper commiting a last man could? Red card? Stats are obvious not a good reflection of the game and favours the better team and not the team that's putting the effort in even if they have less quality (ie, having to defend).

Penalties are the only way. Also, it's not like penalties are luck. Probably the most skilful and nerve racking thing to do well.

Sepp Blatter is a corrupt, bloated buffoon who has single handedly turned FIFA into a despised, sleaze pit, manned by equally corrupt "directors". Add to this Platini, the"mini Blatter" in waiting.
The ONLY reason they won't allow camera technology is because it would stop matches being fixed by refs and linesmen , and illegal betting, in which they have more than a passing interest, would be finished.

I know what Sepp Blatter wants, the words, raggy tramline come to mind.

He's as bent as a five bob note.
