I also think it's Postlethwaite. Maybe he's in the picture simply because he was interested?

P.S. to Ernie: I promise to try harder in Q2 (if I've made the cut…). But these damned tyres are so unpredictable!

The picture was from 1976, though most were only aware of the March in 1977

March in 1976 was founders Max Mosley and Robin Herd - the others had gone. The designer of the rear-end was Robin Herd. In the off-season of 1976/77, March got Wayne Eckersley, an engineer to construct a rear end for the 761 chassis that had four driven wheels (designated the March 2-4-0) to Robin Herd's design. Unlike the six-wheeled Tyrrell P34, the 2-4-0 had four 16-inch driven wheels at the rear (the same size as the front wheels). The theory behind the design was that this arrangement would offer improved traction and reduced aerodynamic drag (compared to the Tyrrell, which used ultra-small front wheels and normally sized rears). The chassis was tested at Silverstone circuit in early 1977 by both Howden Ganley (although the first time Ganley tested the 2-4-0 only the front pair of rear wheels were powered!) and Ian Scheckter but the project was curtailed in favour of further development of the conventional chassis.

now - trying again- car 26 bears ' Ricard & Gitanes'. ?
So back to 1985/6 - and looking up French GP in Wikipedia - and Official results - we have #26 driven by Jacques Laffite in a Ligier-Renault.

But - which year?

Bergy, you needed Wikipedia to know that was Jacques Laffite? Shame on you.

The year is 1986 as Tyrrell are present in the background and the Ferrari does not have an exposed roll-hoop as it did in 1985.

Ha. Geek!

That was what I'd referred to after your 'super sleuth' post, which I edited it because I thought it might spoil the fun.

Hehehe. When you next get your eyes tested, be careful not to guess the letters L, O, T, O when you reach the small print…

I have cataracts developing - so do have close vision distortion. My varifocals now give me focus problems up close.
So after yet another test decided to spend even more money on reading specs, but didn't use them a few days ago.
This has been a source of some fun. Cosi - did you mean to stop PMs? I tried to warn you the sweepstake had opened - but couldn't.

I already use bold print, for my own benefit, perhaps I should increase the font size.

Off-topic.
I'm very sorry to hear of your developing cataracts, Bergy and wish you all the best at thwarting their progress. Presumably surgery will become an option when they reach a certain size to justify the operation? Best of luck mate.

As for the PM thing, I presume my quota is on the limit again, so will make space forthwith. Thanks for letting me know. And thanks also for the Sweepstakes alert!
:)

Cheers.
