Oh I agree with you about what he should do, but I think you've got a better chance of convincing a compulsive gambler not to buy a scratchcard or two whilst he's picking up the morning paper.
Yes on reflection that is a better idea as it would have the weight of HCST behind it. I really do think the Mike White rumour is kite-flying, but leaving any reaction to it till Monday may be too late. Some sort of reaction needs to come pronto.
I think I’m a life member (maybe). But I am a member of Hull City Southern Supporters so will write to them and suggest similar.
Neither should that moron but unfortunately he is. At the very least, we could influence his fickle mindset.
This. Two transfers last summer were scuppered supposedly on fan opinion. Deeply unserious way to run things.
I thought we was a decent appointment and to be fair his points per game have been lower mid table if I’m not mistaken. That’s not the issue for me though. The way we’ve crumbled, played awful pragmatic football with no plan B over the last few weeks has been very eye opening. It seems he copes with pressure very badly, or he can’t inspire his players to cope with it better at least. I’d say mid table would be his sweet spot. The evidence of his reign so far shows that he hasn’t got the minerals to cope at either end of the table. We stayed up on pure luck and nothing else.
absolute bullshit we stayed up deservedly not luck i think we had more bad luck than good luck the final 6 games alone swansea got a penalty for a face hit and luton and coventry got a ridiculous deflection every single loss was a ****ing 1 goal defeat bar burnley who got 100 ****ing points
we can talk about the players all we like but theres absolutely zero and i mean zero evidence the players never had fight or didnt care
I think we’ve got more points than deserved since the international break, although most of the game were tight. Genuinely asking, why were we so much worse on the ball in these last 8 games?
Let’s not gloss over it. We played in our shell. The players went missing and hid in games. We stayed up by the absolute skin of our teeth and it was lucky.
When we were first linked with him, I did some digging on his time at Reading. His first season at Reading, under really difficult circumstances, was a lot like his time here. At first he tried to play aggressive, attacking, possession-based football but was exposed defensively. Then he became a bit more pragmatic and tightened things up defensively but the football wasn’t easy on the eye. In his second season, his teams were more front-footed again, able to control games better and also defensively resilient. He’s inexperienced but I don’t agree with the idea that he doesn’t deal with pressure well. His entire time at Reading was pressure. He had to be the head coach to the players and conciliator between supporters and the owners during difficult times. Most Reading supporters wanted him gone after the first few months last season and were devastated by the time he left in December this season. He’s pragmatic and diplomatic. The football has been dreadful the last couple of months but I think he’s played the cards he’s been dealt and has done his job getting us over the line. I would give him a summer pre-season and transfer window. He deserves that. Sacking him because the football was ugly towards the end would just be Acun’s fickle and impatient mindset that has plagued this club.
spot on really i think people easily forget just how **** of a hand we've been dealt with injuries and what squad we have had actually available i also genuinely believe fans sometimes over extend how much managers can actually do
do you expect his football to improve? When he left reading and the fans were devastated, was he still a pragmatist first and foremost, or did his team have any standout characteristics - actually curious because I like Ruben, just not fully convinced he’s the man yet
I think that's true as a principle. But if you believe that he does let fan opinion drive him, as I do, then those are the parameters we're working within and I don't see a reason not to make your voice heard if possible. I think that a big part of the reason he sacked Rosenior and now may be considering the same again with Selles is that he sees the frustration of fans at games. He hears the booing and the complaints about the football, and he thinks those are the only voices and he doesn't consider that the people making that noise are in a very emotional state and would be more balanced on another day. I think this is why he was so baffled by the reaction to Rosenior's sacking - he was convinced he was unpopular because of the amount of times he saw an angry crowd at a game. I think if he'd known how unpopular the decision was before he committed to it, he wouldn't have done. If I'm right about these things, which I may not be, then I think there's something to be gained by constructively communicating that we do like Selles and want him to stay, if that is indeed the majority view, which I suspect it is. As you say, it's not a serious way to make decisions, but if he is going to do that, we might as well be clear about what we think.
