I think Selles played the results that day. Once Luton were so far behind he played for a point.

Risky but it worked and we were safe. Also helped that Pompey were willing to play that game too.

If we needed to win that second half would have been very different,

Although I think Selles is worth a shot and felt that we need the stability in having the same manager. Upon reflection, It seems to me that the most important aspect of structure and stability needs be in transfers, the make up of the squad and how we play within that.

It's been mentioned before that transfers would be done in a way to benefit the club within it's overall tactical approach, rather than to suit a particular manager which would provide a continuity no matter who is in charge. The idea is probably right but we continue to carry it out poorly and no matter who is the manager, it would be hard to do well under the conditions that have been created.

Hopefully, Dublin and Hodge are going to start addressing this issue and make sure that recruitment is done in a cohesive manner. The manager we have in charge also needs to reflect what we're trying to achieve in this. This should have been considered when appointing him, but if there is a smart and sensible shake up in how we want to structure things, they do need to consider if he fits this identity.

I think you’re right but considering that playing for a point the week before had essentially got us into the mess we were in, it was certainly risky.

It did look for long periods of that second half, once Pompey had equalised, that both sides were happy to draw. We did show a little ambition (obviously we needed a result more than them) such as when Burstow should have got something on a ball that went wide of the post but looking back they were more than content to play the ball back and hold it in their midfield. If there wasn’t so much riding on that game I think we’d have bemoaned what a carve up and borefest that second half was - instead of 45 minutes which reduced me to a quivering wreck.

    Context eh?

Possibly yeah, but still a bit Risky.
only takes a worldie or something unlikely like your right back booting it at your centre back and it flying in, and youre in trouble..

I mean, yes. But we shouldn’t ignore the context also that a draw against Derby would have also kept us up in hindsight.

I kind of understand what Selles was doing in those last two games. Our defence had become really good and our attack was awful. If we kept two clean sheets we’d have stayed up and even if we did lose to Derby it was always still in our own hands.

We started the Pompey game like a house on fire so it was clear that he was letting the team do that if required.

Regardless, it worked and here we are. I think we should judge Selles on his overall work with a very poor unbalanced squad rather than his attitude in his last two games when he tried to get us over the line using our best asset.

Yes and I’d have criticised him like hell if that happened, but it didn’t and we are still in the Championship.

Football is always about taking risks somewhere, we took the risk that our defence was better than our attack. It paid off.

Coventry were dramatically underperforming under robins. Their squad was way too good to be down there. We saw it when we played them there early in both their tenures.

Portsmouth form turned when Colby Bishop came back from injury and had a Murphy playing out of his skin. If you’d put both of those players into our squad we’d probably swap places.

QPR is probably the only squad comparable to ours but Cifuentes had been there a while.

our squad was bobbins when Selles came in. It improved marginally in January but we then lost 2 major players again to injury.

I'm not convinced at all by these noises about a meeting in Istanbul tomorrow. It just suggests a lack of urgency again.

It'll be 10 days after securing safety that they finally, hopefully, make a decision on what they're doing with the manager. We will be in competition with other clubs for players but rather than setting our stall out, showing how serious we are to these targets and focusing on winning them over, we're still thinking about what to do with the manager. If this was last summer or the year before I'd be more understanding, but it's now clear that we've been slow starters in previous summers and that we need to do better this time. So seeing us mess about waiting for an in-person meeting in Istanbul in the second week of the summer rather than having this all sorted by the Monday after the Portsmouth game rings immediate alarm bells.

Even if they do keep him now, some damage will have been done by putting him through this embarrassing public process. Some trust will have been eroded and he'll go into the season being seen as the manager who we almost sacked in the summer.

The amount of people saying "oh it's totally normal to have a post-season review and to wait 10 days after the season to have it" is insane. Of course it's normal to review things, but to let it fester so publicly like they have screams of incompetence.

Not like we couldn't have 2 plans in place before the season ended either. Stay up back him, go down sack him. Or whatever. Just makes us look more ****, any manager or player worth their salt will be cautious about joining, they'll certainly demand more cash to join as they'd have a lot of leverage.

The papal conclave elected the new pope in a few days. It doesn’t take two weeks to decide if a man should keep his job after doing what was asked of him.

I ask again as I don't think I got a response last time, do all other clubs put out some sort of statement within a week or two of the season ending regarding the manager, players, and owners plans for the future? And if so have they all done it yet?

Other clubs didn’t sack their manager last season from nowhere and don’t have ongoing speculation (rightfully or wrongly) now.

If I owned a club and had no intention of sacking my manager (despite speculation I might) I’d clarify things.

He was at Wycombe watching Simons yesterday hardly seems to be the actions of a manager who’s getting the boot

Acun's admitted to having a burner account on twitter, so he'll know the ****storm it's created on social media. The national press have picked up on it as well. It's far beyond 'clickbait' now, it would be so easy for the club to tell the press 'oh we're backing the manager' or to do it publicly, Acun used to be on talksport every week when we were doing well. There is obviously truth in it.

Also Baz just published an Article on the whole ins and outs of the meeting in Istanbul, not like he's magic'd that out of thin air is it...
