Probsbly mid table. That was a very realistic goal. Whatever it was I doubt it was going into the final day in the relegation zone and eventually surviving on goal difference after failing to beat a string of fellow relegation candidates.
Given that mid-table form for the rest of the season only got us to 21st on goal difference, a mid table finish in hindsight doesn't seem that realistic at all to me.
Not forgetting losing those games because of bizzare own goals on top of ridiculous officiating. As Nige used to say, you can’t control the uncontrollables. Selles overall did a bloody good job. Okay he lucked out against Derby but at the end of the day his remit was to keep us up and he did. Fully deserved a crack with a clean sheet and a fully fit squad.
Even if that's true, it doesn't account for what actually happened in the bottom half of the table in the second half of the season in terms of lots of teams finding form, which is why I said in hindsight. At the time I'd have agreed that mid table wasn't out of reach, but as we've seen it play out we now know factually that even being the 12th best side or whatever it was during his time here was only enough to get us up to 21st on goal difference. I haven't done the sums but presumably it'd have taken top 6 form or even better to have us finish, say, 13th.
Sorry but the goalposts did move. Results that happen are reality. You're taking such a strange stance that I'm slightly unsure whether or not it's one of your joke positions.
