Once again the problem is the culture the Chelsea board have fostered towards managers. You can't have a situation where a manager knows 100% that he will be sacked (and also abused constantly by the fans from the first moment he stepped out onto the pitch) and then complain that he cares more about putting a cup win on his CV for his next job than making the fans happy with Champions League qualification next season.

rafa won't be sacked though, he is interim and his contract expires at the end of the season. making CL qualification isn't just for our benefit, if he managed to win FA Cup, Europa AND still make CL qualification then surely it'd look a lot better for him?

Of course it is, and he isn't losing on purpose, but he will readily take chances with league games before cup games, like today, because there is usually another chance in the league but not cups.
