Tramore, I was about 15 at the time, and at the game with my Dad and older brother. The aftermath of Went's tackle (Busby's leg at sideways right-angles) was so shocking that I blacked out momentarily (fainted) and came round to hear a familiar voice, saying "I think you'd better pick your son up". This was my unimpressed brother.
Cheers Bushman, you've put together a great site mate. Just commenting on how players of yesteryear seem to have played week in, week out ........................ brings me to this conclusion. Sports people today in general are ( for want of a better word ) like racing cars. They can go faster than the average car but they are more susceptible to braking down more often. They are so finely tuned that when all is good, they are great but they can't do it for long periods. It is a fact that todays' athletes / swimmers get colds and flu very easily compared to the average person. I find it amazing that if a player has a game on the weekend, they are struggling to back up for a mid-week game. I know when I played on the weekend, I could easily back up mid week and think nothing of it. Again, I bet I wasn't anywhere near as fit as most of these guys. So yes, your 1970's players could play week in, week out but they probably couldn't match the pace of today's game ...................... everything has gotten that much quicker. Just look at our weekly life cycle and how fast paced it is. Probably the reason we are more stressed than in yesteryear. Life was a tad more laid back then, or so it seemed.
No worries brother. Its a seriously impressive sight and i bet even the most steadfast QPR fan would have been hard preesed to see all of that. You keep up the good work and i'll keep up the plugs
