Torquay United because they are the nearest professional club to my birthplace. Sholing FC because they are the nearest club to where I grew up. Had a soft spot for Spuds and Stoke when I was a kid because of Martin Peters and Alan Hudson, the "fondness" for both of these clubs has well and truly washed off over the years though...
I dont have a 2nd team per se, but I used to keep an eye on Ipswich Town's results for the dumbest of reasons. Back in 1998 I bought Football Manager on the PS1 and selected "Random team" and ended up with Ipswich Town. I grew attached to them and so followed them for a few seasons in real life. I guess the closest thing I have to a 2nd team these days would be MK Dons, as their stadium is 10 minutes from my house. Have been to a few of their games, tickets are cheap, and there is never any trouble getting tickets because they have a 35,000 capacity stadium, but being a new club have few fans so they only ever half fill it.
There was a guy who done similar to that but ended up with some Bulgarian 2nd division side or something along those lines. He went a few steps further than you though as he ended up becoming fixated on them and even travelled out to watch them play.
I think we drew. Not 100% now, though. If somebody had have won the Coventry game, we would have stayed up. However, they kicked off late so they knew what would be needed to stay up and then announced our result so both teams would know to keep the score the same, which they then done blatantly.
Your second team used to be Chelsea. Given the dross United have served up on ££££, I think you would be within your rights to change clubs. City would be most logical choice.
It’s mental. It was a feature on one of the FM games a few years back talking about the extreme addiction of the game. Guys wearing suits when they get to cup finals, those who play the game like in real time with 45 minute halves, guys who’ve lost relationships because of it and then this geezer just topped the lot.
Yeah, easy drive as well. The ground is about a mile and a half from the M4 junction 45. Away fans seem welcome enough in the Harvester right outside, there's always a mix crowd in there. If that's your thing. There's a new brew bar opened, Boss Brewing, which is a welcome addition. Makes a change from the cans of Carling and Bow the other pubs serve. Wish I could go more but I've too impatient kids wanting hot dogs in tow!
I only really support Liverpool. That said, I do have a preference for some teams over others. Any Cheshire based team: Chester, Northwich, Crewe, etc get a thumbs up from me. If a Northern team is playing a Southern team I'd usually rather the Northern team win. (Obvious exception is Man Utd who I consider a Southern team. ). Heck, I even would prefer Everton to win over a Southern team. Also if one team is in red and the other isn't... Then they nominally usually get my support for that game... That all said, no I don't really have a 2nd team. If I did it would probably be Chester but I couldn't name their first XI anymore. Certain teams I always want to lose though. Man Utd, Stoke, QPR, and Fulham are the four teams I like least (add Real Madrid for overseas teams). I'm not sure why I specifically don't like Fulham... Something about them have always irritated me. It's not rational, we have no rivalry with them... And unlike Stoke it's got nothing to do with their tactics... I just don't like Fulham.
I used to like Norwich. That's a club we are supposed to be really friendly with after the cup final in 85, but then I met Duncan and the love affair went out the window.
