2 The Commission is made up of 28 unelected commissioners, who cannot be held to account. Each commissioner has a specific policy area in which to create laws. The Commission has a President (currently Jean-Claude Juncker); unlike the other 27 commissioners he is personally elected by the European Parliament but he was the only name on the ballot

The Parliament get to vote on passed down laws

I seemed to have missed a few pages but I cannot believe we are back to the ’undemocratic’ garbage again.How many people vote for the Prime minister? How many vote for those sitting in the House of Lords? Who votes for the senior civil servants. The U.K. is no more democratic than the EU.

False equivalences again, you vote in a party and they pick a PM

remind me which party you voted for in the EU that Juncker was selected by to rule as overlord?


Junker was elected by the parliament, but he was the only name on the ballot <laugh>

Appointments are undemocratic, thanks for proving my point
"The EU Commission is however fully accountable to the EU parliament" No it is not, remoaners do not even know how the EU works. The Parliament only gets to vote on what is passed down.

The Commission is advised by the Directorate General, which along with the Commission is heavily lobbied. Once the Commission proposes an EU law, this proposal is taken to the Parliament. lol

No. I vote for a person to be my MP but the election is undemocratic so many MPs are opposed by the majority of voters. The elected MPs are then threatened by their parties to stay in line so as to pass laws irrespective of their constituents' wishes.

Junckers has little actual power as not much is actually delegated upwards to the EU. I'm sure directly electing the Commission would be better though but this is always opposed as creeping federalism

First para : Party politics are a separate matter I have many issues with as there is a conflict between constituent and leadership
second para: Juncker is the commission chief, as in chief of the law makers

Of course that side has to be undemocratic. A country is hardly going to hold a nationwide election to decide which single person will sit on the commission.
 
Theoretically, the Parliament has the ability to remove the Commission; however the Parliament has never successfully been able to remove it - even when the Commission has been full of corrupt cronies.

The Parliament didn't even remove the commission of 2004 to 2009 which was full of questionable characters. This Commission included Siim Kallas the Anti-Fraud Commissioner who was given this role despite being charged with fraud, abuse of power and providing false information after £4.4million disappeared while he was head of Estonia's national bank.

Not really an argument, so you are saying "**** it, what can you do?"

There is no real mechanism to remove bent commission members and when has it happened no matter how dirty they are

Plus the commission is directly lobbied to, yep, all in secret with massive brown envelopes and there is 0 transparency
