I would be absolutely astonished - not to mention somewhat pissed off!! - if we have spent anything like £5.5m for him, that just doesn't sound right to me.
If we have spent 5.5, it IS a panic buy. Suppose instead of blaming the players we have and telling them that, sorry, but they are not just not up to the standard of most other teams in the Prem, we actually look at the system we are forcing them to play again and again and again even though it clearly isn't working?
To be honest even £3.5m is more than I thought we'd paid. When I first read the news I thought it was either a freebie or a couple of million at most due to him being in the last year of his contract. Let's hope he turns out to one hell of a player!
he's got one year left. it'll be around £2m up front and another million on appearances etc. and i'm being generous. i and others on here know exactly how this club operates and £5.5m is absolutely out of the question.
I do agree with that, no point buying a player to experiment, was just a thought. He does have the attributes though in my opinion but we don't know whether he has the positioning, stamina etc. to play that role, I still think we are after a few players, I can see two more coming in. Also see a lot of movement outgoing in the next few weeks too. Ward or Barnett, Lappin, Chris Martin, Smith, Adeyemi, Francomb etc.
Damn it typed out a long message pointing out how ridiculous and hypocritical some posters are on this board and it didn't send. Not impressed! Anyway I'm going for an extended break until the season is really up and running and more importantly the transfer window is shut.
do you think fox is a holding midfielder? i'd say nigel de jong is a holding player or makelele etc, not fox - he's more like ian crook. it just so happens that he plays deep in the midfield. you know how big a fan i am of fox but he is unfortunately not going to be able to do everything required of a player playing in that position. he makes us tick but we need somebody who also stops our opponents ticking...
I agree Fox is not really a DM but do you see him playing much if a DM is bought in? Especially with Howson, Butterfield etc recently coming in.
But we've never needed a dm before (always just brough Johnson or crofts in when muscle was required) fox clears the ball up and passes it effectively from the base of midfield. I don't think we need another bruiser dm specifically.
