Have to trust the gaffer with this one
Can't really rate him on his time with wolves as their whole defence was poor
Surely this would mean the end of Barnett?

Would be nice to be linked with a striker but I think that just isnt gonna happen now

CH had him at Newcastle and must know what he can and can't do. If we trust CH to be a good judge of a defender (given where he used to play he should be) then it follows that he must rate him and we should have made an excellent acquisition. To be fair I could have played in the back four on Saturday and we probably wouldn't have looked much worse so I welcome us strengthening this key area. Would prefer to see a right back but still a few days to go before the window shuts.

Think it's a good signing personally.

Still young and with pace to burn if he sticks to the basics will be a quality addition.

The question is, who will be the main partnership? I would go with bassong and bennett, both quick unlike turner and there cant be too much difference in defensive capabilities between bassong and turner.

i have just had a thought about who the holding man should be. apparently, stoke city are about to try and lure tom huddlestone on loan from spurs. he is exactly the sort of player we could do with in that deeper role. he can pass, he is mobile, he can tackle, he can dominate that midfield area. surely a loan to norwich would be more appropriate for his style (rather than his height) than stoke...?

    one more point about bassong...

african cup of nations this winter - is he still getting selected by cameroon?

if so, we lose him for a possible 6 weeks.

Huddlestone is a superb player, just a shame for him that he has struggled so much with injury during his career or he'd have won far more caps for England.
If he's fit with no niggling injuries then be would be an AMAZING signing for sure!

Played a huge part in Spurs 2009-10 4th place Champiins league qualifying season following the injuries to Woodgate and King. This leads me to believe that anyone saying that this is a bad signing is mental. Has what it takes to help sure up our defence a bit. We still need a DM though as I personally think this is our main weakness. Our defenders are good enough! They just need some protection/help.

its irrelevant whether he was any good for spurs in 2009! have you watched him in the past three years? he's been, lets say, shaky at best...

Good signing for you guys, was player of the season for Newcastle when they got relegated from the prem. has also played a couple of times as defensive midfield for french u21 in non competative games. and yes he was in the world cup squad 2010 so i presume if he plays regular with you then he will be selected for the african cup.

i think a few people hear the name, recognise it, see who they've played for and assume they must be good.

he could do well for us, it might be a good fit for both player and club, he did well for newcastle, albeit in a team relegated and he did pretty well for spurs in his first year, but he is not gonna be ripping up trees on what i've seen, especially in the last two or three years and if people think he is a great signing they may end up very disappointed. i sincerely hope i'm wrong about this...
