If DG goes then we need enough to land CMS from posh thats the like for like replacement Now if Mr B is only giving 30-40% of money to MM then DG needs to fetch bare minimum £6m to stand a chance ! personally I would rather DG stayed ,however I accept that as very unlikely! We must get a decent replacement one that season ticket holders would be happy to watch! If the team is eroded or weakens ,then it stands to reason ST sales will weaken too!
If two Premier League clubs were desperate to sign DG, we could easily get £6m. QPR appear to be in for him. My understanding is that Newcastle have ruled themselves out of signing lower league players to replace Carroll. I guess if Swansea win on Monday, the consolation is that they should be the second team.
OK let's get a couple of things straight here. DG's value is widely understood to be £2.5m, Match of the Day printed it a while ago and IMO it is no coincidence the 2 offers received so far have that figure as the maximum. QPR's £2.5m max was based on their survival in the Prem, whereas at least West Brom were going to pay full value now. CMS is way out of our ball park, Baz cannot afford a "Marquee Signing" - the sooner we accept that the less disappointed we will be when the unknown forward from Inverness Caley Thistle joins. The talk about the stands - the Rous was a big groundworks project, look at the roof to confirm that! It is meant to last 50 years, which is more than can be said of both ends. They won't last without considerable maintenance. The new East Stand is said to have plans to also level the pitch and will be a major challenge, not just because of the finances but of the lack of depth between pitch and Occupation Road. I look forward to someone trawling a list of released players this summer to come up with some realistic transfer targets.
These are the same people who tip us for relegation season-in, season-out, looking at nothing other than our financial situation. Jon Harley tops my list at the moment. We will most likely sign one striker on a free, and buy the other, and in all probability both will come late in the window. By contrast, we need cover at left back/left midfield now.
There was me thinking that the worth of something roughly equated to what someone was prepared to pay for it - so it matters not a jot what some crap hack judges it to be. How many of them would have guessed correctly as to how much the scousers were prepared tp pay for Carrol or Chelsea for Torres? My view is that QPha and the baggies are just testing the water to see how desperate we are - but Winter is no mug. I think DG will go, but to someone like West Ham who have to unload their big wage earners like Carlton Cole but would gamble on a proven Championship scorer like DG to get them straight back...so they would risk £4 - 5 million on that. Well that's my opinion....
