Hmmm, now I'm home from work and I've looked at this a bit more I'm not actually sure I trust the information in that chart because I don't think it's comparing like with like. For example, it says the cheapest adult Norwich season ticket is £519 and the cheapest Saints ticket is £585. However, looking at the Norwich website, the £519 is/was an early renewal offer and the only way you could have got an adult season ticket for £519 is if you'd renewed an existing season ticket between January 17th (when they went on sale) and February 23rd. In contrast, the £585 for a Saints season ticket is for a new season ticket. If you're renewing your ticket then you can get one for £520.
The Fai here in Ireland accidentally offered me a student ticket instead of the full price ticket for Irish games....88e instead of 124e for 6 games. Result!! Didn't think Saints would be quite so high in the table for this....Any word on prices for match to match tickets?
Last day for renewals and the club have been tweeting a lot about it, so is it a case of just getting a few stragglers who havn't renewed or... is the renewal figure down on last season?
Renewals are almost always down. Very rare to see 100% renewal but they will always want that percentage as close to 100% as possible. When does general sale begin? Tomorrow?
Hopefully once we get get the new stadium they can offer lower priced tickets. Plus if we are planning for the future a 60 thousand seater stadium would offer a place for everyone.
Or we could go the same route as Arsenal and increase ST prices to pay for the new stadium. Unfortunatly my job dictates that I can't have a season ticket so I have to settle for getting individual tickets when I can. That said I think I should pay a lot more for an individual ticket than what it works out with a season ticket. With a season ticket I think it works out at about 3 games free for the season which is pretty poor IMO.
I don't think it's even that is it? My season ticket works out at £31.79 per game, and is the cheapest available. How much are the cheapest individual tickets now, I don't have a clue?
I worked it out that if it was £35 per game thats £665 for the season. £585 for a (new) season ticket as mentioned above would mean you save £80 so 2 and a bit games. As not all are £35 I rounded it up to 3 so it could well be less. I just think that ST holders should have more of a saving for their loyalty. That said it improves a lot with the early bird renewal, just maybe hamper new applications.
I think you've hit it on the head. A football club is not like a pub or a mobile phone manufacturer. If people do not like the product or price there they can easily switch elsewhere. Football clubs are more like train companies, they have a virtual monopoly. In the same way that if you want to go by train from Southampton to London you pretty much have to go with South West Trains, if you support Southampton and want to watch football you have to go to St. Mary's. You aint gonna get people who say, actually, that's a bit steep, and the experience is poor, i'll go and watch Portsmouth or Bournemouth instead. You may say that the real competitors to football clubs are things like the cinema, or other sports like Rugby or Cricket, but the competitors for rail companies are things like the roads and air travel, it doesn't stop train fares being regulated. However you look at it, the market for football tickets is imperfect, and imperfect markets often need external regulation.
