Interesting to see how highly you rate Sarr. He's certainly got bags of potential but imo is very much a work in progress. I've found against teams who are quicker and more physical in the middle, he can't keep up with the pace of the game and it passes him by.
Player of the Year VDV Young Player of the Year VDV Most Improved Player Porro. Best Signing VDV Worst Signing Dragusin. Not sure why he was bought if he's not trusted. Favourite Game Home v Liverpool. VAR at it's finest. Least Favourite Game Home v Chelsea. Had them beat and then implode. Impacted a good few games after as well.
I know he has a way to go (as does udogie) but when one or both of them are missing we seem to struggle more
I don't think it makes an iota of difference who plays in CM. This season has shown that every combination we try seems to struggle. I think Sarr is at an age where he needs to be playing alongside a mentor who can coach him through those tougher games so that they don't pass him buy. That's what we're lacking, a real presence in the middle of the park with a bit of leadership nous about him. As mentioned in the transfer thread, we should be making daily phone calls to Luka Modric.
Modric is one of the best players I’ve ever seen for Spurs but I don’t think he would have the legs for the PL anymore. That said, wouldn’t be gutted if it was a 1 year deal.
Just having a player like him around the training ground is worth pretty much whatever wages he wants.
As a neutral, I’d give every award to van de Ven, with Udogie returning as the most improved player. Best game - the 2-2 at Old Trafford. Just what I predicted in the prediction leagues; it was so obvious. Worst game - Spurs beating Utd early season. Utd waltzed through the Spurs defence time and again in the first half, but failed to take any chances. The roles were reversed in the second half and Utd capitulated, of course.
He improved by joining Spurs from Udinese! He was actually our player last season, but yeah, that's an unusual choice. Maybe Lidls watches a lot of Serie A? He may have improved a lot. I wouldn't know.
Imo he didn't actually improve much across the season. He started at a very high level and continued more or less to that standard whenever available. There are obvious areas he needs to work on, such as positioning and linking up with whoever plays at LW (I found he was often on a different wavelength to whoever was in front of him), so there is plenty of room for improvement but without a doubt we have ourselves a very promising player.
He's made finding cover/competition for his position very difficult. We desperately need depth there and a player with similar attributes. How the hell we find someone that can do that job who knows he won't be first choice? No idea. Over to you, Mr Paratici.
Kane improved a lot having been out on loan too. Was the question only posed for those who played for Spurs last season?
It is perhaps the worst dilemma inherent to any tactical system that relies on very specific roles for specific positions. Ange's interpretation of the FB role is pretty unique and therefore, as you say, getting cover in is more or less impossible. I'd personally be totally open to using youngsters/Davies for the less important games and if Destiny is unavailable for a bigger game, do what we've done recently and start Micky there, using Dragusin at CB.
Player of the Year Porro - deserves it due to the significant changes he’s made to his game. Has become arguably my favourite player now, especially after his performance against City. Young Player of the Year VDV - only misses out on POTY due to his injury spell Shout out to Destiny and Sarr too. Big futures ahead of them. Most Improved Player Porro - reasons mentioned above. Best Signing VDV - we’re a different team when he’s fit. Worst Signing Solomon. Didn’t understand the signing and felt he was just making up the numbers. Has barely played for us. Favourite Game The 4-0 vs villa. - we actually stepped up for once when we needed to. Brilliant all round performance. Least Favourite Game Too many, again!. But the 3 and 4 nil’s against Fulham and Newcastle (respectively) pissed me off. Absolutely no need to lose in that fashion and severely damage our goal difference.
