September : there are no points up for grabs on the "like for like" this month (so winning all the PL games is the target) .
The UEFA ranking pts for 2021-22 have been "amortised" by this season (well that was not hard to do, was it ) .
A big month (possibly season defining) , and brutal with it. EIGHT games in 29 days. In the CL, Eintracht must be put out of qualifying, and hopefully Spurs will be in a position to top the group if they beat Sporting CP in the return leg. In the PL, there are 6 pts up for grabs in the "like for like" . And with it the opportunity to do damage to two of last seasons' top 6. The challenge facing Conte purely as a game / squad manager is huge. Is he up to the task, or will he be found wanting ??
Although this article is primarily descriptive, I thought this month I would make some predictions ,,, For the remaining PL games this month, the "like for like" on GF/GA is 13/5. Given the current attacking form, I predict come Nov 1 the "like for like" : - pts total will be no more than +8 - GD will be around zero
PL (like for like with 2021-22 after 12 games) : Pts = 5, GF = -4, GA = -2. Matters of note : 1. First time this season the pts tally has dropped 2. The goals measures (both GD AND GF) are now below zero
PL (like for like with 2021-22 after 13 games) : Pts = 5, GF = -2, GA = 0. Bournemouth paired with Watford on the "like for like" .
A third of the season gone, and Spurs have already played away to 4 of last seasons' PL top 7 (would have been 5 if the Citeh game was not postponed) .
A third of the season gone and the state of affairs are : 1. PL : +5 pts on the "like for like" (at that rate a projected 86 pts) . 2. CL : KO stage (pot 1) IMHO most of us would have accepted that at the start of the season. On #1, the GD needs to start scoring significantly, as current teams in the top 2 have double the GD this early in the season.
We got 86 in 16/17 and were well behind in 2nd. City won it with the same amount in 20/21 and Leicester had 81 when they won it. Liverpool failed to win it with 97 and 92, though.
City and Liverpool have won an insane amount of games in 1st and 2nd place. I doubt 2 clubs (mathematically) are likely to exceed 86 points, so 86 would almost certainly get us top 2. Liverpool can only drop 8 points in 26 games to reach 86 this year. Can't see any other team doing it apart from City.
