So we've only got 8 more wins to come .... and will not win another away game. Arsenal, spurs,Palace, Watford, Leeds, Newcastle, Burnley, Southampton AND Norwich will not win another away game between them for the remainder of the season
I know somebody who got the demo of FM21 off the Epic Games Store, and it's remarkable just how different the stats are on that compared to the finished version
PL (like for like with 2020-21 after 10 games) : Pts = 6, GF = -3, GA = +2. And so ends the reign of Nuno. Also an example of how basic data analytics measures do not tell the true story (although one could argue the GF/GA were a minor warning in themselves) .
Does mean that Nuno's reign is no sort of disaster. If the new manager gets exactly the same results from the next 28 games as we did last year we will have 68 points. He also still has the chance to win all three cups.
1.5 points per game (Nuno's record) means a total of 57 points so it is poor for a team with top 4 aims. It is not too clever for a top 6 team. 9 goals in 10 Premier league games is awful. Minus 7 goal difference after 10 games is appalling. But what makes Nuno's reign a disaster was that no one can say they enjoyed watching us play. One good performance (v city) followed by 16 borefests is unacceptable, especially after he talked about understanding our need as fans for good football. As an he comes across as a very decent human being. As a manager he came across as completely unsuited to us. Feel sorry that he was put in this position but then he accepted the job and did not deliver the one thing he promised, decent football so he has a lot of responsibility for the situation he found himself in imho.
You are not allowing for the difficulty of the fixtures. We only got 9 points from them last year! Agree about the dull football but the new manager has 28 relatively easy games and if he can win one more match from them than we did from the same fixtures last year we will have 70 points at least.
Difficulty of fixtures? United and Arsenal are both in a mess as teams yet we made them look like title contenders. We created a total of 2 chances v Palace and nothing in the second half v West Ham. We have had 1 shot on target in our last 140 minutes of Premier league football and have scored 1 goal in our last 420 minutes of football in all competitions. That's why Nuno's reign was a disaster (which was the question you posed). As for 28 relative easy games left... West Ham (h) , Brighton (h and a), Chelsea (a), City (a) liverpool (h and a) will not be relatively easy .. we took a total of 5 points from those 7 games last season...so I would suggest you are being overly optimistic. I think we can still get top 4 depending on who is our new manager, how the players apply themselves and if others have serious blips. But none of this hodes that Nuno's reign was a disaster imo.
It would have been a disaster if we had 5 points and were out of the Carabao. It's really only a minor set back. We've played 6 out of the current top 7 in the first ten games and beaten two of them. Poor management appointments rarely do long term harm whereas the very infrequent good ones can make the club much stronger.
It means that Nuno was sacked because ENIC had no confidence that he could finish with at least 68 pts +/- be in the ideal position re two of those cup competitions, given the recent on-pitch displays.
Tough Spurs PL baptism for Conte this month, as he has to take 7 out of 9 pts just to match the "like for like" with last season.
Dahboard updated (fixtures) . Utterly brutal month, compounded by the current lack of form/fitness/spine/moral in the squad. There are 7 pts potentially up for grabs in the PL like for like. However the GF on the like for like at the end of this month is near certain to be appalling.
