PL (like for like with 2017-18 after 18 games) : Pts +11 GF +1, GA -4. GF in the black for the first time this season.
If we had signed three £50m players in the summer and then delivered that I can guarantee that everybody would be saying that Levy had finally got the message. But we spent nothing and delivered it and what?
With the injuries piling up a bit, time will tell on the above. So IMHO only a gobshite would be running their holes right now.
Powerspurs said three 50m signings. Such price tags (in the current inflated PL market) does not imply such players would be "good signings" .
I was talking about signings in general...French wingers for 10 million are **** too...looks like we are stumped
So we come to the half-way point, and the summary is : 1. League Cup : SF. 2. CL : last 16. < phew > 3. PL : 2nd place, +11 pts "like for like" . 1. The League Cup campaign has been managed well. To be finalists means having played four times against the current PL top 5, in addition to the two PL opponents before that. 2. Spurs have been very lucky to reach the KO stages. The game management in the first two away games was very poor, and coupled with the headless start last season in the away leg at Juventus, both manager and squad have to get their heads straight when it comes to Dortmund (and possibly beyond) . 3. Spurs are in the PL title fight. At the halfway point, only 6 pts behind the current leaders (compare to the 21/13 pt gaps of the past two seasons) . Everything now IMHO comes down to squad management/physio. Specifically no bad injuries over January, and having at least two of Dembele/Dier/Wanyama starting XI ready come February. Lamela and Moura are also going to have to front up in the PL big time with Son on international duty for possibly up to 2 weeks (and likely fatigue when he returns to the fold) .
Here is the schedule for "January" : Dec 29 : PL - Wolverhampton Wanderers (H) Jan 1 : PL - Cardiff City (A) Jan 4 : FA Cup - Tranmere (A) Jan 8 : League Cup - Chelsky (H) Jan 12 : PL - Manchester United (H) Jan 19 : PL - Fulham (A) Jan 22 : League Cup - Chelsky (A) Jan 26/27 : FA Cup - TBC Jan 30 : PL - Watford (H) Quite a busy schedule. Like December, again this month will play a very large part in shaping the outcome of the campaigns this season. On the PL front, there are an extra 5 "like for like" pts up for grabs. The Jan 8-12 period is worst in terms of opponent quality, and perhaps Jan 22-27 too (if Spurs get to FA Cup 4th round and a decent opponent is drawn) .
