Maybe so - but that's not the issue here. The issue is would this specific name change proposal fundamentally change the nature of the team we support? I say definitely not.

It is hypothetical but the seeds have already been sown. During the last few months there have been more and more threads about Hull United. Some City fans have already started to go to watch their matches. The owner seems to be targeting City fans who are not happy with the Allams to increase his attendances. I would expect that to increase tenfold if the FA approve the name change. I wouldn't put it past him to put in an application to become AFC Hull City either.

I'm glad to see you accept the fact that we could be worse off under a different owner.

And some fell upon stony ground - I think you're trying to make a mountain out of a tiny molehill with this hypothetical argument!

    You're not wrong
The chaps I go with have been discussing next season as we're not renewing on principle at moment
Most been going together for about 37 years
Naturally we've wondered what we will do
Maybe go to home games assuming name change is kicked out, but depends on AAs reaction. In the meantime we've discussed away games, occasional foreign tourist football trips ( two of us did Hertha Berlin recently which was a good laugh...and the tickets were €17) ....but we have discussed popping along to Hull United for a look too. Clearly we wouldn't particularly care about the result, but if they became AFC Hull City? .....well who knows ( I do know if we became Hull Tigers then for me the club I love wouldn't exist anymore for me regardless of legal status)

As Dutch keeps asking, what would you do if the name change is rejected but all the branding is Hull Tigers?

Why go and support Hull United? A team that has changed its name for marketing purposes? Why not pick Hall Rd Rangers?
    Just interested.

I wouldn't go and "support" Hull United, I said I wouldn't care about the result, that was just in the category of something to do with mates ( an excuse to go for a beer I suppose) I've been to NFU too
I did question what I'd do if they became AFC Hull City because I don't know
Regarding the branding point I agree with Dutch. It's one of the many things which have built up to the point where I'm not renewing. If the situation you mention happened then I'd probably stay unrenewed, it is things like that which I meant when I mentioned AAs reaction

If (although it's looking like when) we get relegated to the championship will The Allams be claiming the name change will positively impact the club because of the global appeal our name will have? The Championship has very little global showcasing.

Would he have to come up with a different reason to want to change the name?

If there was a proper reason for us changing our name then I would listen to it

The only truth here is that Allam fell out with Hull City Council - and that is such a pedantic childish reason for wanting to change clubs name that has been in existence for 111 years

If Hull City Council changed its name to Hull Tigers Council what would he do?

So if a restaurant called you a hooligan + irrelevant, would you go back to his restaurant?

If we go down, there'll be a job getting tickets for some of the away games.

    Bonkers isn't it?

Maybe we will, maybe we wont. As it stands I hate Allam + his crazy ideas and prices. I for one have said goodbye to the crazy goings on (UNLESS ITS A FREE TICKET OR A VERY CHEAP PRICE).
I personally couldn't give a **** if you agree with my principles or not.

    It is bonkers.
It's a bit like being nagged by the wife, so you don't go home + prefer to play away.

In that analogy, it's already a separation, if not a divorce. She can amuse herself with her toys.

That's a daft thing to say.

Firstly they didn't change their name for marketing at all. They started a new club. The name was nothing to do with marketing, it's just the obvious name for a second Hull club. They just wanted to start a serious non-league alternative in Hull. The Allam situation made it the perfect time to do it.

Before United, there wasn't another team representing Hull apart from City. There's numerous amateur clubs within Hull of course, but none had any plans to go and represent the City nationally against teams from other places. That's why Hall Road, or any of the other Hull-based amateur sides, are unlikely to pick up new fans in the way Hull United have done.

If it wasn't for Hull United, a lot of those people would probably have gone to Ferriby instead.

The whole set up is marketing. They're marketing themselves as a Hull Football team and using nostalgia and the current issues at City as a tool. That includes the people involved in St Andrews reforming under the new name.

Whether you see that as good or bad is a separate question, but it is undeniably marketing.

So if that's not marketing I'd love to hear what your definition of marketing is!

What are we talking about - 30? 40? Wow!

They didn't change their name for marketing as Chazz claimed. They started a new club altogether. That's how they see it and it's how the league sees it.

He's desperately trying to compare this grassroots stuff with Allam's 'everyone do what I say because I'm rich' agenda. There's absolutely no similarity though, and it needed correctinng.
