I like a gaffer who knows his best XI To be fair though, the squad isn't complete yet - and won't be until the window closes.
There's a genuine competition in midfield now, so it may take time for our strongest 11 to emerge. There's no sign atm of our Academy products coming into the starting 11, so the likes of Leaburn, Elerewe, Kanu and Henry will have to be loaned out, as it's essential that they get plenty of competitive game time to rpogress, as I'm sure Steve Avery will be saying to Garner and TS.
I see that a few football league podcasts are putting together their predictions for the season. I’ve got my rose tinted specs on, I think we will finish higher than last seasons 13th. I think we will finish 12th
Thanks for all these posts @Butterfield I think 14th is pretty insulting. We'll be pushing top 6 right till the end
I think 12th is where we will end up, Not the top 20 agree with me. We haven’t strengthened since last season. Our opening fixtures look tough. Hopefully we won’t be too far behind by the time we do our deadline day shopping spree.
Haven't we strengthened on the touchline? I love JJ and he saved us from League 2. But in the end that was more or less all he did.
IMO JJ dragged us out of a relegation battle, then played a couple of months without a senior striker. Harshly binned off in my opinion. It takes time to implement a tactical style. Garner - Too early to say. I hope it works out.
We played a lot of nice stuff on Saturday, nearly all out wide. It fizzled out because Swansea packed the penalty area and it was only when Kanu came on late that we looked like getting through. My concern will be if teams suss us out. Early days though.
I'd take 6th right now. There are indications that CAFC is heading in the right direction under its new gaffer. But all of those indications are as yet unquantifiable - as in you can't measure them. As far as I'm aware all measurable evidence points to no progress in the right direction this summer. No increase in investment in the squad compared to this time last year, and a reliance on last-minute signings again, just like last summer. And let's be under no illusions; we need a lot of movement in the right direction. We were going down to League 2 until Johnnie Jackson stopped the rot. And we still had our worst 3rd tier season for 96 years. We must see improvement we can measure. Like at least 3 wins from our first 6 league games (the number we'll play before the transfer window closes).
