As I say nobody saw Kane as PL quality. Indeed if Spurs had let him go I'm not sure many would have batted an eyelid at the time. Many thought he was way too slow. Could I say with any certainty if Spurs had let him go he'd have got back to the PL at some stage? Maybe not there are plenty of talented players who either drop down the leagues and stay there or otherwise. Its about having the bravery to give people game time and show what quality they do have. Arma may not have been good enough. He may never be. One thing for sure though, there is one way you find out. His pedigree with international performance at high level should have meant he at least got a chance. I'm not convinced Perez is any better than him. I would certainly take him over Joselu any day of the week. Joselu is a trier, I'll give him that but I don't think he'd tear up the championship as he is not a natural finisher or striker like say a Gayle. I'd struggle to determine what Joselu actually is position wise. That's never a good thing. At least with Arma I can see he's a forward.
Our spending was huge mate. The end of the season with Cole and Sellars was 12 games. Its more than a quarter of the season. Even without them we spent 1.85m. West Ham who finished 2nd spent less than 250K. Portsmouth 400K. Swindon about 270K. So looking at Portsmouth who spent the most, they had about 1/5 of our budget. So you can disagree with it because there is no way of saying what exact impact money has, but you can't pretend we didn't spend way more than everyone else. I'm no genius but I'm pretty sure money was the biggest factor in our return to the PL. Don't get me wrong I think KK would have had us safe in the top half if he could have only spent 250K. Clark and Howey were better players for their exposure to first team football afterall and if we allow the 250K spent on Kilcline, that is a much stronger side on that basis alone. There is no guarantee on spending. Wolves and Villa are good examples. Unfortunately though there are a hundred more who did spend the most and did get promoted right back through time. So on balance we bought our way out and there is absolutely no shame in that whatsoever. I wish we could buy our way back to the top now.
