Art, like music, has an ineffable quality which really renders attempts to explain it rather pointless. Do you like it? Does it make you think? Smile? Weep? Rise to anger? Do you get a choice in your reaction? Are you stuck with your emotional response regardless of what other factors are dictating to you? Then you are responding to Art. It's a bit like supporting City. Your choice of football team is no choice at all. It's an expression of a ineluctable manifestation of your history which is, essentially, an expression of your own internal, personal art form. Anyway, that's Ernie's early Sunday morning bollockfest done with. I'm away to unblock the shower trap. Bloody long haired women. Bain of my life.
I have very little time for people who are ignorant about art and cynical about Hull being city of culture. Thick twats. #seaofhull will be a fantastic addition to the new Ferens. Brian Eno gave a great explanation of art in his John Peel lecture, art is everything that you don't have to do.
*gasp* Bane Ernie, BANE. You're right about art, it's personal. Just because you don't get it, doesn't make it ****e. Just because you love it, doesn't mean anyone else will. Art critics are still pretentious twats mind.
You obviously didn't pick up the subtle wordplay, Haps. Using the French word for bath in a washroom based anecdote. OK. I cannot tell a lie. It was a bloody spelling mistake. Yer twat.
You could NEVER be anything but Beautiful Charlie1.....in all ways possible Gutted i could not get a lift to Hull from filey at that time of morning. Proud of you Charlie i really am. 16 away games last year and to think that trip to wembley knowing i was on your coach got me going to away games when i didnt think i would / could . Hugs you Charlie. xxx
Aw thanks and bless you. It was a pleasure. You did it all yourself Filey. You should be proud of yourself. X
The lady on the left has delicately balanced a biscuit on her right shoulder. The picture of the right depicts the explosion of coffee (for that is what she bought to drink) all over the cafe walls, as the biscuit dropped unplanned into her drink. Do butterflies create hurricanes?
I'm really chuffed that this all went well and the images look fantastic, well done to all concerned.
Piers Morgan @piersmorgan Jul 9 Just when you thought our country couldn't get any more absurd, 1000s of people painted blue strip naked in #Hull. I see he still doesn't like Hull since we beat Arsenal all those years ago.
If there was a few quid in it, the chance to get on television and was all about him Piers Morgan would have been stood on top of the Queen Victoria Statue bollocko with his ( probably tiny) meat and two veg on full show. Make no mistake. Obnoxious man that he is.
The first picture is called Woman in Hat and fur collar. First off its a portrait of two women, his ex-mistress and his then current mistress. How do I know? I looked it up. I personally find most portraits boring and this, doesn't excite me very much either. Its like looking at a 3-d photograph without the glasses. I think you are meant to marvel at the concept of painting the face in two positions. No thank you. I find the blue on the face makes the face(s) look ugly which puts me off warming to it. The yellow, red, green and black I can live with. It shows a certain boldness in approach which I find attractive. However the blue flowery thing and the block of flats more than cancel that out. Get rid of the blue and I'd be happier. In the modern world you can take a photograph if you want a life-like replica of a person. Whilst I appreciate the talent that goes into painting a portrait I don't particularly like them unless they are done in an unorthodox way. Picasso got half way there with this painting and then blew it with the ugly blue bits. Hopefully I'll have time to look at the second picture tomorrow. Not sure this is much help.
