When a lot of the houses down Selby Street were getting cleared, in the mid to late 70s, it was the height of the rugby madness under Pat Doyle. The Floodlit Rugby League Trophy on BBC2 Monday night at 8.10 was the 'go to' TV sport programme for a nation transfixed by the likes of Barrow v Hunslet at the Watersheddings in front of 2,398 spectators.
The BBC and RL are so unlucky that the trophy pre-dated the satellite era, as the rugby crazy hordes in mainland Europe and S. America would have paid a fortune in tv rights , especially to see the 'world famous' Hull Kingston Rovers.
Anyway, to have an RL tackle immortalised in brick on a gable end down Selby street must have been rubberstamped by Pete Allen or Pat Doyle himself.
I daresay Hull might even have matched our gates back then even though a decade or so earlier, they were getting about a tenth of our gates.
Good lobbying on someone's part, fair play to em.

But City do need to stamp our identity on the Anlaby Rd/ KC area so that visitors know whose stadium they are approaching, not like the anonymous Costello Sports Centre look we have now.
