The investors need to understand that they get one more shot at this. They have one last season to get this right. Only 7,200 ST sold tells its own story - forum fans posting 20-30 times a day are not the same as paying fans, coughing up hard earned every week.
Three interesting facts picked up on Charlton Twitter today. The sort of info you won’t see on the Pro Boards Pro SMT forum. The price of a “Gold Game” increased to £35 next season. Charges now to park in the Valley car park. A cynic might say the club is cashing in on the Labour Council’s horrible new parking restrictions around the Valley. The price of sponsoring a player next season almost doubling to £700. Not sure Dubai Addick, Swisdom or any other bum licker has been briefed by Methven on this.
£35 for a single game in League One is ridiculous. Leyton Orient are charging Charlton fans £37 for the privilege of visiting Brisbane road. I was going to go but not now. They can stick it.
The Party Line is normally that “we can’t expect the owners to fund our hobby”. I think it’s pretty clear that reducing the £800,000 a month losses = hitting fans who go to games in the pocket. It’s a high risk strategy. There are no games that are worth a £35 admission price in League One.
It’s now £10 to park your car in the West Stand car park on match days. Thats £10 for four hours. Assuming you arrive & get a space at 1.30, and can get out by 5.30pm.
I'd love to know what the general sale figures were for each game, I bet it was no more than 2000 fans on average.
20 years ago Charlton charged £10 for some midweek Premiership games. A fiver for kids. It was a godsend since we couldn’t afford S/T's or expensive games. Likewise the kid-a-quid games. Charlton aren't the only club to rip off their loyal fans, but Premiership clubs can get away with it because of the demand. Different in SE7.
Blimey, I didn't even know car park spaces were available behind the West Stand. I had always assumed those couple of hundred lots were reserved for officials of one kind or another. I used the car park at the bottom of Victoria Way once, but never again. Now with the parking restrictions all over the place it's a real struggle for supporters like I used to be, who live a distance away and wish to drive to SE7. I did notice a few parking spaces right at the top of Victoria Way that are still marked 'Free' with no restrictions. I imagine there might be more on the other roads branching off Charlton Road as you approach the Standard.
I wouldn’t pay £35 to watch a League One game out of principle. Would you pay £7 for a Lidls sausage roll ? I don’t think it’s far fetched to suggest that we will see match tickets at £40 plus if we did get into the Championship under Methven & Co. They are money grabbers. They did the same at Sunderland.
You'd pay £7 for a Greggs sausage roll. IF we got promoted next season you can bet your life tickets would be a minimum £30.
If Millwall announced we were giving away 1,000 tickets to Greenwich University every home game and then hit fans with a 20% price increase there would be riots - we do Charlton fans sit back and let this happen??
Anorak trainspotter fan base, as you know ? One of the most prominent of the type posts on here #Elfs We need pitchforks & riots, although I don’t want to upset @lardiman
This really boils my piss. They are effectively giving away 23000 tickets for the Season. I understand that they want to increase the fan base but pissing off the Season ticket holders is not the way to do it. What is wrong with the old system of Football for a fiver initiatives? With the occasional free ticket to School kids. As the new Assistant Moderator you are always welcome on this Forum TC
CARD have organised some teddy bears to throw on the pitch on 23 minutes, to tie in with 23 games giving away tickets. I may be an anorak, you cannot afford one
This lot are as clueless as all the previous owners the Club has had since 2014. After so much betrayal, fans will only come back if there is good, winning football on the pitch. It takes a lot to discourage life long fans so much that they turn their backs. Ten years of lies and incompetence under five sets of owners have done it for me, and I'm not alone. Silly ticket gimmicks will do nothing to repair that lasting damage. All it will do is make the attendance figures look a bit better each home Saturday, so the suits can delude themselves and a few gullible sponsors that they are doing a good job of pimping the Club. We've been down this road before. How many times do we have to go down it again? CAFC is dying slowly and nobody cares except the dwindling core of loyal fans - who are being taken for mugs yet again. SE7 are no better than Sandgaard or ESI or Duchatelet. Scum and chancers.
Very few things are more counter productive than doling out free tickets, IMO. I know that Paul Elliott has spoken about the club reaching out to certain communities in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, but there is absolutely nothing currently stopping these people from paying for tickets like the rest of us. You can’t on the one hand increase prices to £35 for your most loyal fans, and on the other start dishing out piles of freebies again in the local Londis. Has the club ever tracked just how many of the freebies came back and bought a tickets after previous giveaways ? Generally speaking, these people are not particularly interested in Charlton, or even in football. They are just looking for a cheap afternoon out.
I would like to know the percentage of people that receive a free ticket then become a Charlton supporter and buy a ticket or even a Season Ticket.
