Ah Al Murray; the comedian from Oxford whose act no one realises is a parody of a stereotypical xenophobe, and therefore has unintentionally acquired a moronic xenophobic fan base which takes his jokes at face value.

To answer your question, it's probably a coincidence.
 
For some reason idiotic Chairman/Directors think if you do well in Scotland you'l naturally do well in England. Why? It's a lower level of football you morons!

The latest. is the St Johnstone manager just been signed up by Bristol City. Good luck to him, but it will end in tears.

I mean Moyes has really taken Everton to the next level hasn't he? Coyle (No he's not Irish, not really) has really got Bolton up amongst the pace setters. Kean, beating all and sundry with Blackburn. Lambert has done well with Norwich, Freedman doing ok with Palace and the best of British to them, but the vast majority of Scottish managers are indifferent plod alongs.

Malky Mackay anyone?

Correction Joe,
Al Murray; the comedian from Oxford whose act is a parody of a stereotypical old school Publican (A now almost extinct creature whose opinion is massively over-inflated and full of self importance, the sort aquired by one who is used to forcing his own views down the mouths of those around him)

IMO almost everyone who has ever watched Al Murray must immediately realise that he is a fictional parodical character who, whilst sometimes xenophobic in his supposed views is not limited to that single dimension. The majority of his act is actually based around the issues in British politics that concern the general population with a cheeky nod to the slightly skewed ideas that are discussed in pubs around the country, often by individuals who justify their own views and opinions with massive generalisations or headlines they've read in the paper.
I freely admit that there will always be a small contingent who believe Al Murray is 'real' and take his words literally but the majority of his many fans (i include myself in this category) should not be dismissed as moronic, particularly by someone who, it would seem doesn't 'get' the sense of humour on offer.

The point I was trying to make was perhaps premiership footballers respond differently to different accents from the dugout or in training which is by no means xenophobic to suggest as i'm sure you'll agree

With your bigoted opinions and sweeping statements are you sure you are not a parody of somebody Joe or have i failed to spot that you are merely a WUM?

Back in the 60's there was a series called "Till Death Us Do Part" with a character called Alf Garnett who was, like Al Murray, a parody of a racist sexist xenophobe, which was very popular with both those who got the joke, and those who thought he was "real". This type of humour is very edgy (and very funny) but you do wonder at the wisdom of trying it on an mass audience whose intelligence might be questionable. Certainly in the 1960's I seem to think that more people didn't get the joke than did: I'm not sure about the modern audience's take on Al Murray.

I think most people got the point of the Alf Garnett character, because he was also shown to be pretty stupid. You'd have to be a knuckledragger to want to be Alf. Murray plays a more likeable character with outrageous views, but he makes us laugh at ourselves (a British characteristic). I'm always heartened when I see ethnic minorities laughing as well, because that's true assimilation.

I`m not one for any parochial nonsense, but I don`t think your being reasonable. Given the circumstances, Moyes has done a great job at Everton (and could be a candidate for next Man U manager - I notice you didn`t give Fergie a mention). Mackay is doing OK at Cardiff, and did a good job at Watford. Coyle did great at Burnley after coming from StJohnstone, and I`m sure Bolton will progress this season. Kean has a poisoned chalice at Blackburn.
I seem to recall a certain Strachan did OK at Saints (not so good elsewhere however!) Here`s a thought - if Luggy didn`t get the boot, would Saints have been relegated that season ? - I doubt it. Remember what happened - in came Wigley - hopeless, then Redknapp (next England manager elect) - he had plenty time to turn things round, but couldn`t, and got my beloved Saints relegated. Redknapp needs millions to make a go of anything - millions that Moyes, Mackay, Kean etc will never have. Lets give McInnes a chance at Bristol - he knows the English league from his time at WBA, and is generally well regarded in the game.
I don`t care where my managers come from so long as create discipline within the club - in NA I trust !

Now the Welsh by which I mean their women, they are something else.

We should have Welsh women managing football teams. It would be great at half time watching the losing team's players all huddled trembling together in the centre circle dead scared to go anywhere near the dugout or the changing room.

Wow I think you've just read far too much into my comment there and unearthed some unintended double meaning. It wasn't a dig at you or even related to the subject of this thread. Ironically, my comment should be taken entirely at face value. I don't have nearly enough information to make such an assumption about you, and as a non-bigot I would never do such a thing. I also wasn't implying that everyone who enjoys Al Murray's comedy is one of these moronic xenophobes. I just suggested that, like you said, there are a few, and in my opinion a few is too many. For the record, I also enjoy his comedy and feel it is a shame that so many people are missing the point. From what I've observed, it's more than a small contingent.

On an ENTIRELY UNRELATED note, I don't really believe that there is any real reason for the abundance of Scottish managers in the Premier League, and I don't think they're seen as being better in any way just because they're Scottish. I reckon it's a coincidence.
 
Taking ability as equal, there is no doubt that some voices (accents) are better for some jobs. The Scottish accent is good for yelling and instilling fear. A plummy voice might lead you in a battlefield, but is pretty useless in the changing room. Apparently north east accents are regarded as more trustworthy. Scouse is good for humour. But have to agree with joesteinberg that the number in the EPL may be coincidental.

What is it with my posts that make people want to start another thread 'cos of it, this is the 2nd in about 3 or 4 days if I remember correctly lmao

Anyway back on topic, if I'm honest I think it could be to do with the fact the Scottish ain't the best players in the world so it makes them more determined to do something worthwhile AFTER their playing careers that they succeed as a manager/coach/scout etc... No offence to any Scottish readers here but we all know about the Scottish World Cup runs (or lack of) that they feel Scotland can give alot more than the players show
