I love laurel and Hardy, years ahead of their time, same as the Marx Bros. As for visually stunning movies I have a few which blew me away. A Clockwork Orange - Has to be seen on the big screen, jaw dropping. Blade Runner - Stunning Beowulf - Not a great story but incredible visuals, the first 3D movie I saw. Avatar - the script coud be written on the back of a *** packet but it does have mind blowing 3D. 2001: Has to be seen to be believed.
I tried for about the 20th time to watch Bladerunner last week. I just can't get to the end of it. Is it just me or is it actually boring overrated ****? Maybe I'm prejudiced because it's my wife's favourite film.
I never really enjoyed it the first time I watched at the cinema - the voiceover version. I have a collecter's edition and the documentaries are great. The best version is the Final Cut with no voiceover. You either love it or hate it but I think it's incredibly moving. Someone conducted a poll a couple of weeks ago and it was vote best Sci Fi movie ever. Don't think I agree but it's up there in the top 5.
Get the "Final Cut" and watch it on Blu Ray or Upscaled DVD with a decent sound system on a reasonably big TV. Watch it yourself and maybe you'll get it.
I've never seen the "voiceover version", only the Director's Cut and Final Cut - what's the big difference?
The voiceover was done simply because US audiences did not understand the ending. They being too thick. Harrison Ford does the voiceover in a supposed homage to the old hard boiled Detective movies. He was so against it that he did his best to sound as disinterested as possible, he hated it and so did Ridley Scott but the execs forced it upon them. He even explains at the end why he was saved
A few people have mentioned Inception in here. If you want another Christopher Nolan masterpiece, watch The Prestige. I was pretty gobsmacked by the end of it.
