I personally have always felt that the 'smaller' nations need to be chosen more for football tournaments

It raises the profile in those countries and brings in revenue to help bring the stadia into modern times/needs

I guess if the tournament is being expanded to include another 8 ****ty teams, it doesn't matter too much if they have to play in ****ty stadia.

Those three have no hope of hosting. For no other reason than they are located next to England. Therefore UEFA and FIFA will not allow it. How many stadia would be required? Nearly all major sporting competitions require stadia to be upgraded or built so that may not be a stumbling block.

Apart from Croke Park all those GAA stadiums are ****e.

They are getting an overhaul though. A nice lick of paint should see a few of them right.

Ireland has Croke Park, Aviva, Windsor Park and Thomond Park.

Add in McHale Park, P Ui C, Casement, Thurles, Fitzgerald Stadium, Pearce Stadium, Celtic Park and Clones and we gots ourselves a tournament of our own. Wales and Scotland can come.....if they qualify

South Ireland joint hosting with Ulster? Good idea, a gesture of peace and friendship.

Only problem is the smaller countries need to have the revenue to bring the stadia to this level in the first place. This might be a problem for Wales, Scotland and ROI as their FA's don't exactly rake it in, and their individual governments aren't the wealthiest. Westminster might not be for funding it in the case of Wales and Scotland

    wales:

    millenium 72k
cardiff city stadium 26k but expandable to 35k at least.
liberty 20k but possibly 30k in the coming years.

not much to bring to the table compared to scotland and ireland but options nonetheless......<ok>

    Croke Park
    Aviva
    Hampden
    Murrayfield
    Ibroke
    Parkhead
    Millenium
    Cardiff City

that is 8 and they would without a doubt make new stadiums/redevelop, almost every stadium at euro 2012 is new or redeveloped

In all seriousness, apart from Croke park, the rest of those stadiums are embarrassments.

The Millenium Stadium is first class. Trouble is, I imagine the way the tournament would work is that a couple of groups would be based in Wales. You'd need 4 stadia in Wales to cater for that.

Thomond, Windsor, Croker and Aviva are the only ones we have anywhere near capable of hosting games
