I'd agree with everything you have said. Who knows maybe there will be some gradual shift out of London, with the BBC having moved to Manchester it could be a start. I think the general showing of a party like UKIP and the Scottish independance near miss, is something of message to the ruling classes. whether they heed the message of dissatisfaction is another thing entirely. Bah!
Lmao you know the deficit has GROWN under this government in less than 5 years they've borrowed more than labour did from 97 onwards despite austerity. I wish people would educate themselves, the media only give you a fraction of the story you have to look yourself. Also it's against forum rules to insult others. I think any government that starts destroying the NHS, attacks and cuts the rights & benefits of the genuinely sick & disabled is evil. £1.2bn NHS contracts handed out to tory party donors You know how long a pip claim takes now? 12 months till you get an assessment, that's right a year to get a "medical" with no payments at all. Now DLA wasn't perfect but it was never this bad. I'm not saying vote labour/libdem/tory I'm saying actually LOOK at what's happening to people in this country due to the decisions of this government.
Well said, Rich. Apathy allows these undercover cuts to go on unopposed, as they did under Thatcher and Major. Scotland voted to stay in the Union but they have also forced further devolved powers for Scotland, but also for and England and Wales. Good result all around.
I am pleased that one of the likely upshots of this campaign is that English issues will not be influenced in the future by non-English MP's as the current position has been pretty unfair and morally unsustainable. Still having said that when has that stance carried any weight?
Indeed I do, that is why I said they have delayed bankrupcy not prevented it. I had started to address who I might blame for the nhs destruction and the rest of your post, but then thought I would only end up accelerating this thread to JK's predicted conclusion. For the record I am no Tory and I certaintly don't agree with a number of their policies including some that you mention above. Each party has vested interests and does little for the common man. Not sure I insulted you? Though I did say that you had spouted some garbage, I stand by that, if nothing else because of how your sort of inflamatory comment normally ends up in some horrible mudslinging debate that ends with someone leaving the forum. If you are really insulted by that, then your skin must be thinner than a very thin thing! (Ooops might of done it again!) C'mon we're flying high on our way back to the promised land, we can all get miserable and argumentative again when we start losing horribly again in the PL. Bah!
Bit of a simplistic way of looking at it if you ask me. I've lived down in the 'Big Smoke' for the past dozen years or so and have been battling with the temptation to move back to the Motherland for a few years but me and the missus have agreed there is just so much of London life that we'd miss - and of course once you've made the move out it's very difficult financially to move back again if you regret it. There is just so much going on, whether it be gigs, shows, exhibitions, shopping, restaurants etc etc then nowhere in the country compares - as much as I hate to say it Norfolk doesn't even come remotely close. I'm not a driver so the idea of having to drive absolutely everywhere to get anywhere would do my head in, give me the tube any day of the week, it only gets hot and sweaty during rush hour and that's only if you don't know the right places to stand - and this is from someone who spends 10+ hours a week commuting to and from work. The whole "higher cost of living" thing is a bit of a nonsense as well, yes it certainly is the case regarding wages and house prices, but I'm pretty sure a pint of milk/loaf of bread etc in Tesco's cost the same wherever you are. I paid 95p for a packet of McCoys crisps in Hemsby a few weeks back, they are 59p in my local shop down here. ***s and booze are no cheaper in Norwich than they are in London either. There won't be a power shift from London anytime soon because our entire economy revolves around our London based financial services, which is pretty much our only successful industry (and even that can be argued) since some old cow who's name currently escapes me set about dismantling industries in other parts of the country, most notably up north, 30 odd years ago. But that's another argument for a different forum.... And back on topic, thank goodness common sense prevailed. the whole thing was ridiculous if you ask me and there was only ever going to be one winner. And I hardly call it a "near miss", the NO vote won by a clear 10% - 400,000 votes. That's a landslide if you ask me and was only as "close" as it was because of the horrible chest-thumping campaign of lies, propoganda and deceit from Salmond and his lot.
I agree the financial services are difficult to move, but I don't see why London has to be the seat of government. If there was a move to regional assemblies, our current parliament buildings could house the London ones (with space left over for something else), and the UK government could move to some nice, modern buildings somewhere more central. Manchester? Leeds? I don't know. Then at least we'd have at least one other city of some importance in Britain.
Personally I can discuss politics without getting upset.I was a District Councillor for fourteen years and actually got on very well with many of the Tories. As individuals they were OK,just had weird ideas. Many of them were not too bright, actually that went for about 2/3 of those on the council.A lot seemed to stand for the perceived kudos of being a councillor.IMHO the public held us in low regard, quite rightly.
Rich remarked that the tories had increased the deficit, which they have, hence my agreement, however I was inferring that had labour continued, that the country would now be bankrupt! I.e. Delayed it, cause with no real production it must surely happen in the end. Bloody great ponzi scheme, it's which generation is not just shafted by its predecessor but left so desperate that it all collapses! Re-london, I know there is an incredible array of options and that it is great for some, it ain't for me and a city such as Norwich or nottingham whilst smaller than London offer more than enough, and more in many other respects. Horses for courses, I grew up in the middle of no where and some say soon I aim to return, just gotta find the right village with a lively pub and half tidy broadband! Bah!
In your opinion it isnt true, but in the absence of evidence, I.E. We can't go back and find out. We have opinion. I did say and continue to say no good can come of this ongoing thread, I even said JWM may be the harbinger of thread doom, he's played nice so far,but you wait! Politics and football not a good mix! Bah!
It's been a weird day in politics that's for sure. I actually started to have some admiration for Salmond as he delivered his acceptance of defeat speech this morning and it has only grown with him standing down a few hours later. There is no denying that he has absolutely changed the political weather on this island for many years to come! I loathe his politics but I have to admire his conviction and bravery. He's got bigger balls than our 3 pygmies down in Westminster! Call me Dave! God help us!
