Countries with high tax usually have a far higher quality of life. Just look at Scandinavia.

If the papers said the EU claimed the moon was made of cheese and they're allowing the French to mine it you'd be stupid enough to believe it.

Because I've been to the moon. It was nice but lacking in atmosphere.

There were far more problems than that with the poll tax. I'm not old enough to understand what they were so ask an old **** like stereo or tina.

Don't trust any political party with the word "national" in it's name. That's where "Nazi" comes from.

    I'm not that old! <grr>

The poll tax didn't work because it was based on per person rather than per household. A lot of homes, a LOT of Tory homes, were hit hard because there were usually 2+ adults living there, hence the reason Middle England rebelled.

I was working in Covent Garden the day of the Poll Tax riot in Londomn, and went round to Trafalger Square to have a look. It didn't look like middle England revolting, more like middle Earth. Best riot I've ever seen, and proof that while the British are a stoical bunch they won't tolerate rank injustice.
