Thing is the guys who want seperation from the UK and can't answer how an Independent Scotland would work toward closing the 10%GDP deficit are the ones arguing that the State should be giving out freebies to one and all?

Well, the truth is that a Scotland without the Barnett formula couldn't afford to pay for all these freebies and the IMF (who would be at Scotch banks just now had the 2014 referendum went the SNP's way) would be telling the uber left wing Scottish government to cut all the freebies and raise taxes.

If the State is running a trade deficit then you're not paying for that service in it's entirety, only a percentage thereof.

It's quite simple, if you can afford to pay for eg. a prescription then you pay for it. If you're 60 and can afford to pay for a bus ride, then you pay.

Of course I don't want to pay more but if I can afford to, then you should.

I pay NI contributions for my employees and I, I also offer vitality health care (private med insurance)
I pay NI contributions for my employees and I, I als operate a pension scheme which I contribute to.

I grudge paying tax as much as the next guy but I'm also happy to give the guys making me money some perks.

Long story short, I'd rather the State allowed me to spend my money on what I want instead of me paying for MP's/MSP's expenses/salaries and 'waste'.
