Once JM has determined who will be in the first team squad there is no point having additional players - whoever they are - joining in the drills, tactical sessions, fitness work-outs etc - it completely upsets the whole squad dynamic that he is clearly trying to establish. Schweinsteiger and the rest who don't figure in his plans will have been told as much weeks ago, giving their agents plenty of time to find either a loan or permanent deal away from OT. Schweinsteiger could have been a great signing but the warning flags regarding his previous injuries were already there and were ignored by LvG. I remember when we signed him there was much jeering and sneering from the hun that the great MU were reduced to signing old Bundesliga crocks, BM's cast-offs. It was a gamble that didn't pay off the same as Falcao, the difference being that we were able to offload Falcao to Chelsea quite quickly. This whole Schweinsteiger 'story' has only been given the prominence it has because it is a quiet news week. Has he found himself another club and slipped out quietly this wouldn't have got a mention. At least it doesn't seem to be the player whipping it up, but rather his brother and the hun sporting press.
As you say, it's all hearsay so not confirmed. But the rumours of Schweinsteiger being out are no more prominent than the rumours of Rojo and Januzaj being out, the only difference is the media circus around Schweinsteiger. Not sure there's any need for Utd to confirm anything for definite - we didn't make a public statement when we decided we didn't need Evans, Nani, Hernandez, Kagawa. Berbatov or any other player who was deemed surplus to requirements. I don't see why we need to pander to the media by revealing the inner workings of the club just to satisfy some whinging nobodies. Nothing to do with being Utd or having loads of cash, that's just how transfers and team selections are done. As Mourinho said ‘What is happening is what happens in every club in the world, and that is the manager decides his squad". Nothing else needs to be said.
It's not revealing the inner working of anything, it's merely confirming that the player is surplus to requirements and is available for transfer. To have not said that is weird to be honest. If anything it is that that is pandering to the media, the silence in it. Just say he's for sale and have done with it, like they did with every one of the players you mention. Anyway, I'm clearly on my own in this so I can't be arsed going on about it ad infinitum. I just don't like United's attitude to a lot of things at the moment.
Yesterday Klopp just came out in a press conference and said Benteke needs to find another club, as he won't be in his plans here. No one has batted an eyelid (maybe 1 or 2 trying to get a story). The difference is - Benteke is still training with the team, that's purely because we want him looking good for potential suitors as he's got a 30mil pricetag. But the point is - Klopp has come out and said other strikers need game times and Benteke won't be in his plans and needs to be sold. No Issues from Benteke about that statement and no issues from 90% of media outlets. Basically it's Mourinho hype.
Mourinho has said pretty much the same thing, except his comments covered all the players not in his plans, including Januzaj, Rojo, McNair and others. He didn't feel the need to make a special statement about Schweinsteiger. No issues from Schweinsteiger about this statement, but it's Utd and Mourinho so we become the focus of 90% of media outlets as a result. Heck, we've been taking offers for Schweinsteiger for the past month, doesn't take a genius to work out he is not in the manager's plans. And as you say Sky, Liverpool are desperate to get all their money back for Benteke and can't afford to let him go on the cheap. Utd can afford to let Schweinsteiger go for free, so there is no point including him in first team training with a squad he won't ever be a part of, purely to try and eek a couple of million more out of interested clubs.
Really?! Did you not see Berbatov sulk his way through his last season and then claim he had no respect for the manager or club after SAF assured him he was a valuable member of the team then sold him to Fulham? Besides which, as I've said twice already, Mourinho has confirmed Schweinsteiger is not in his plans and won't be in the first team squad. Simple fact is this sort of thing happens all the time, it's only a combination of it being Utd, Mourinho and the German media obsession with Schweinsteiger that's led to it being such a big thing.
Agree. Although we could afford to lose some money on Benteke but there's no point as he's easily worth £30mil in today's PL market. The reality is any of the teams that lump the ball into the box would have a very good PL proven striker. Basically any team in the bottom half would make good use of Benteke. Even reports that he's being lined up for Everton if Lukaku goes. I still think he's a great striker personally, just not suited to 'gegenpressing' - or whatever the **** Klopp calls it I'd be very surprised if someone didn't snap him up for 30mil this summer tbh.
Tbh I think you should be expecting more than £30 mill in today's market. It's only his poor form and not fitting your playing style that has left him undervalued this season.
You're probably right. I think it's a case of getting our money back and sending him on with no hard feelings, he's been a credit to himself the way he's dealt with his big money move and not playing etc. Someone will have a very good striker and professional on their hands. Palace would be ideal imo with the wide players they have. We'll see. He can always go in January at a higher price if needed, but for his sake I hope he gets a good move this summer.
If this has occurred, rather than some cryptic catch all about not giving people a minute game time of not in his plans, then fine it's a non story. I must have missed that statement.
I have little sympathy for Schwein as I think he was more than happy to chill at the end of last season to ensure that he'd overcome his injury in time for the Euros.
And happy enough to swan around Dubai and Milan whilst injured rather than working on his recovery. Not the kind of attitude you would want infecting the rest of the first team squad tbh.
