I grew up as close as you can get to Loftus Rd. Born in Hammersmith Hospital and lived in the flats ( Rhodes House ) behind the School End. I only had to jump over the wall and I was in School, Ellerslie. Sadly the flats and the school have both been knocked down. I can't even show my kids where I spent my childhood when we go to home games. I went to Sir Christopher Wren secondary school, and even that name no longer exist.

As a slight aside I used to play football in Canberra School three nights a week. Arthur Jefferson an old QPR left-back who was a PE teacher in Wren used to run it. Good times.
 
How things have changed. For me it was Coverdale Road late 40's and Henry compton in the 50's. I chose HC because it was a Central School (Mdway grammer/ sec) and just as I was accepted it was made into a secondary. Now very rough apparently. Holland Park became popular in the 60's as the place all the Notting Hill luvies sent their kids to after wanting to get rid of grammars. There was a lot of pressure from the 'names' to get a grammer school education for their own kids while calling it secondary. I suppose it is no different from todays lot in parliament. Private schools for them while the rest get the rubbish.

St. Clement Danes and Burlington girls were top grammers in my day but from what I read on here are now rough co-eds.

What have they done with the education system?

Hi Peter, he was a top bloke. There was also his mate Albert Smith, I think he played for the Rangers as well. What year did you leave? I left in May '82. The day before the Cup Final.

Hi 999s, i left may 71, i dont remember Albert Smith. but Arthur was a top bloke

You win Nines but I come close. St Stephens (on Uxbridge road next to the White Horse) and Christopher Wren until 1975. I remember Arthur Jefferson well - top bloke.

Henry Compton very rough nowadays, Holland Park went downhill once nicknamed 'Socialist Eton' but now mainly somalis and kosovans! Although new headmaster who came after I left has upped it again to try and get access to the notting hill yummy mummies again

Burlington danes went into special measures it was so bad (so did Phoenix/chris wren)

How many of us are white city boys then?
 
Amount of you lot that went to Chris Wren some of you must've known eachother...it went rapidly downhill after it turned into Pheonix labelled one of the worst schools in Britain, now has 'outstanding' ofsted

When I left, I remember it being labelled the worst school in Britain. i am qpr.. I remember Mr Rouse. Some of us oddly enough probably went to school together and yet don't know who each other is on here ...Brilliant.

Mr Powell to you, you long haired hooligan. I will never forget that dodgy curly barnet of his and the way he patrolled the showers. I was too naive at the time but it worries me now. Left in 75 BTW. One of the first in the new 6th form block the year it was opened and could sit with the Hammersmith County girls legitimately for the first time :-).
 
I did 1 year in 6th form, it was strange after 5 years of not being allowed near the girls school all of a sudden they were there.....all day....i suppose we were all a bit innocent in those days!!!
 
Anyone remember Mr Tanitch? Incredibly camp English teacher but by far the most inspirational of my generation.

Yep, a genius with the english language.

I remember a Mr Wall who taught German, can't remember who taught us French, but he took us on our first trip abroad to Calais....overseas a whole new world!
