Actually it was Spurs fans that stood by him and didn't prejudge him (it's what normal and decent people do) and awaited for a duly appointed jury to find him not guilty of the allegation. It cost the country £1.3 million to take Redknapp and Mandric to court - their defence costs were less than 6 figures.

Well if £8m of tax payers money and 5 years investigative work can't get a conviction you'd have to say that there was sufficient doubt in the prosecutions evidence.

A video of some bloke getting kicked in by a defendant who gets let off is another story.

Allow me to tell you exactly what a defence lawyer does. The defence lawyer is allowed to see all the evidence the prosecution is going to bring before the trial, so they have time to cook up whatever story they can in order to get their client acquitted - a courtesy that does not extend both ways, by the way. Because of this, you get such utter crap like Gerrard's defence, as outlined above - or the one used in the Suffolk prostitute murder case (because the blood of four of the victims was in the killer's truck cab, the defence was he gave them all a lift when they were on their period whilst categorically denying the fifth murder, as none of their blood was found in his cab)

The fact is that Gerrard sold seven of his mates down the river. Hardly captaincy material, is it?

its obvious from this that no matter who becomes boss of England that they will always dredge out the same lines from the same hymn sheet...poisoned chalice indeed..a job that makes the best of men become lap dogs....do not take that job gaffer and if you do..dont become a boring tw@like the rest of them..churning out the same old golden generation hangers on...i tell you..the moment he becomes england boss if he does then we all will start to voice negativity towards Hr because i dont think he will do anything too diffrent to the rest.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out there's a reason certain players are guaranteed a spot in the squad regardless of form, fitness, injury or suspension - because their sponsors dictate that, in order to get a return on their investment, they have to go to the tournaments. That would certainly explain why Beckham and Rooney went to World Cups with broken metatarsals, as well as the FA desperately trying to guarantee Rooney would get one game at the Euros.

It's funny that you should say that, Croydon.
A match commentator mentioned an arrangement like that on the radio once, but I've never heard anything about it since.

Ever wonder why the England manager always picks his strongest available team and never uses friendlies to experiment?
    I certainly have.
