Holly Willoughby has said it was "very hurtful" to discover her former co-host Phillip Schofield lied to her about his affair with a younger colleague.

On Friday, Schofield confirmed he had had a relationship with a younger male ITV employee while still married.

In a statement, Willoughby said: "When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not.

"It's been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie."

Writing on Instagram, Willoughby added it had "taken time to process yesterday's news".

The pair presented ITV daytime show This Morning together for 14 years until Schofield's exit last week.

Forget Holly, Dermot, Alison and all the “ITV Family” and reflect on the fact that ITV’s greatest loss this week is this brilliant woman - Emily Morgan. Professional, intelligent and approachable - the opposite of those who are currently the focus of attention.

Absolutely nailed it - a young woman taken in her prime, terrible.

So filthy Phil lied to holly about shagging a bloke at work!!
So ****ing what
I denied it to all my male colleagues when I was knobbing a fat bird at work

Absolutely
So what’s it got to do with anyone else if filthy Phil was shagging a colleague
It happens in most workplaces

I have no idea if it's true, but the allegations relate to the lads age and Schofield using his position and promises of work as leverage.

The whole thing is beyond pathetic and shows up each and every one of the whiney, sycophantic, toadying participants for what they are.

Toxic workplace, my arse. None of them would last five minutes in a real work environment.

The worst two in the whole sorry saga are the pair of buffoons who the day after he fled said what a brilliant presenter Schofield was, how he was the best in the business, irreplaceable and wished him nothing but the best for his future.

Hypocrites.

With zero credibility left it should be the end of their careers.
