That's about the nuts and bolts of it.....no doubt Schneiderlin will go, Saints will just hope there are a number pursuers so we get top dollar.
I think Schneiderlin can probably move somewhere else where he will double his wages, be in a squad as strong or stronger than ours, have CL football, still get picked for France (probably even more likely to get picked) and finish higher than 4th. So it's all upside for him, really. Should that not happen, then I believe Schneiderlin is smart enough not to make a bad move. But I think it will happen. OTOH, I sort of don't get the whole "resign ourselves to losing him" thing. I think he will most likely go, but I don't feel some sort of need to know for sure or pretend to know so I can prepare myself for it like it is a major life tragedy. If he stays that would be awesome. If he goes, then I hope we get good money for him and spend it well.
Suprised that so far there have (apparently) been no serious bids for Morgan. Reckon some teams are put off by Saints tax?
Personally, I think there is a 'deal' in place and the 'official' bid will come in when the times is appropriate. The season is still going on and the transfer window is not open. Arsenal and Saints usually do things the right way.
That's what I think as well to be honest, and think that's been in place all season, but I see rumours of English teams looking elsewhere so he could still end up abroad I reckon. Still don't see him being a Saints player in September.
Watching the performance against Leicester simply highlights that Morgan is our Bale or Suarez. Without him we're mediocre and finding the right replacement will Determine whether we can continue to seriously threaten the top 6. Reed and Wanyama can win the ball back, but no one can dictate the play. Clasie is the logical choice, but unlike Liverpool/Spurs let's spend all the money or most of it on a replacement for now and not 3/4 potentials
I agree with the first part, regarding Morgan.... what do you mean by the second part and spending all of the money? You think we will sell Morgan for 25m and buy someone for 25m? We're Southampton, there are not many 25m players who would come to Southampton - partly because 25m players need a salary to match. Our position in footballing life is to go and find another Morgan for between 10%-50% of his fee.
We have to cover the wages. Katharina let us keep all the money from the sales last summer to use for players and their wages. As Fats said, we would struggle to pay the wages of top players....if we could afford to, we'd keep more players. We can attract talented players from the next level who want to play in the EPL and regard our wage level as good. And then watch them leave if they prove themselves. However, this is not a disaster if we continue to play good football, whilst improving our financial position. Softly, softly, catchee monkey.
I don't think a 15m player is impossible. What Spurs & Liverpool failed on is selling one player and buying 5/6. That unbalances the squad dynamic. For the money we receive we should only be looking at getting 2 players. One replacement and one in another position that needs improvement. Who knows how much Toby will cost
Until a few posts up and a possible cash plus player, no Saints fan would accept £15m for Morgan. We're talking "value" of £25m. That isn't likely to happen for Saints. £15m, we've already got close to, so is doable. £25m - doubt it for us.
