Schar

Plenty used to say he wasn't tbf..... some including myself were adamant he was our best cb and the other one ousted ... can't recall his name

He was always capable.

I am looking at lascelles and thinking I might be wrong there .. just eat your words mate.
Even under Rafa he was poor/average.
His positioning is generally poor. He gets dragged out a lot. He’s rash.

In last 12 months though his tackling and heading has improved. His confidence has grown. Naturally getting better as he ages like most centre backs do

he always had the same qualities but most the side was tripe.

Genuinely always said Schar was our best CB, not least because he looked good for Switzerland (who were doing very well in tournaments, etc) whilst our other defenders were poor at best. Lascelles has shocked me though, he was always capable of looking good for parts of games but had absolute howlers in him, suspect playing with better players and getting a bit older has helped him in that regard - kudos to both players character though, even when not getting on the pitch they clearly looked after themselves and added to the squad and atmosphere when other players may have sulked. Lascelles in particular has gone up massively in my estimations in the past 12 months, Howe is a magician.
