Me....Name Change. To be honest I'm not that bothered IF we become HULL TIGERS. same owner Same manager Same players Same Colours Same stadium Same team I have supported since my dad first took me in 1965 From Hull City....to Hull Tigers. It's no big deal to me. BUT Good luck to those who are against the name change... Don't have a go at me and I won't have a go back. It's just opinions. These last ten years have been great in my view.. The Allams are great owners, I'd even say our best ever. EVEN IF the name change turns out to be a mistake then I can accept one mistake for all the posative things they have done. Maybe I am wrong but I think some fans just don't like the Allams no matter what they do. Maybe it goes back to the sacking of NB that got Many into a rage though it turned out Brilliant. I guess I would rather we kept our name as Hull City .....But I'm just not that fussed if we change it. My 2 nieces like the Hull Tigers . quite a few of there friends do as well. I won't be joining in any protests. But I have nothing negative to say to those who do. I do like tradition... I was more pissed off that we never modernised Boothferry park up I'd have rather we had stayed there then moved to the KC. Seriously I'm pissed off the badge sellers have been moved this season as I get dropped off v close to were the badge seller use to be. Now she's half way down Walton street I can't forking walk that far and the Girls love saving the match badges...and I won't let them go off on there own to get them. Grrrrrrrrrrr Badge sellers back ! UTT COYH
Like I said earlier, if you were to read my back-posts you would realise that our opinions are very close; the problem, on here, is that to repeat your opinion, which would eliminate misunderstanding, brings you into criticism from some pompous fool who thinks he has all of the answers and enjoys personal vendettas. I totally agree that AA is the focus for all attempts at opinion change, as it is his club and, ultimately, his decision. Equally, I have never understood his argument about name-change and agree that Hull City AFC could easily remain our 'Sunday Best' - a lovely turn or phrase! AA will have to show evidence of consultation, but do you really believe he will have a problem with this (hence my thoughts on strong unification of supporter groups and controlled group/club liaison)? The PL will play a safe bat, but the chances of them acting against AA is very slim, IMO. Your last paragraph about the binding nature of our name is exactly what I have said in the past; we are not poles apart, it is simply that I view the actions required differently and seriously question the value of any out come - but as I said, the campaign must be continued.
You're making stuff up again. Move on, it's ****ing boring. The ridiculous thing is that we share pretty much the same opinion on the name change and the lies associated with it.
There are a lot of people on here splitting hairs, putting words in people's mouths and generally mixing words in a deliberate attempt to start an argument, but that's by the by. Whatever grievances people have with each other on a messageboard (which should be zero if we are all supposed to be adults) should be set aside when a debate about football arises. I am personally in the anti-name change, people claim that resistance is futile, but I don't understand this, if problems arise in life and it might be difficult to solve what would you think? Nah! Can't be arsed sorting this out i'll just sit and take it. A previous post mentions that the majority of people are indifferent/ambivalent/whatever word you want to use to describe their attitude towards the name change. Have you thought that perhaps they could be strongly against the name change but don't have access to such things as AN or CI or Not606 and therefore think they can't do anything? If we tell them what we are doing, get the message across in how they could help etc. then they may be interested. 1 man can't make much noise, but put him together with more people with the same mindset and noise begins to be made. I get the feeling some people think the campaign is run by people who have a personal vendetta against AA, this is complete nonsense (from my view anyway), I am and always will be grateful for him saving the club with the loans to the club to keep them from insolvency, but this doesn't mean that he can just do anything he wishes in the hope of extra revenue. If you want to put football passions aside, and look at it through a business perspective, we are his customers, and if he says that he can ill afford to run the business on his customers feeling then I am afraid I would have to question his business acumen in this regard. He is a self-made millionaire so evidently does have some business/financial nous about him, but this was done in a completely different field to a football one. If he was a self made millionaire through a series of successful professional football clubs then he'd have a very strong point. But this being said aside, I am against the name change, not the owner. If Sir Adam was to propose a name change to Hull Tigers, Hull City Tigers or any other variant it would receive exactly the same reaction from me and no doubt everyone else in this campaign. I also don't believe for 1 second that AA would admit to being wrong, if he did indeed go ahead with this change of name and it didn't get us any further riches in the his target markets. Being the steadfast man that he is, I think he would press on regardless and refuse to return to Hull City AFC. Well that's my two penneth - take it or leave it.
To raise awareness of the anti name change campaign. To pay for, Banners, posters, post cards, stamps, web addresses and anything else that can make the campaign more visible. There could be other stuff further down the line. It is being done with good intention by people who are passionate about the football club.
How about this for an idea. Our history/heritage has been pretty ****. Think about it. It took us 104 seasons of our 109 years existence to experience top flight football for the first time. For a city of our size, that is piss-poor and without precedence. Now I'm well aware of the heresy I've committed to many die-hard supporters by putting that fact out there, but it also true that most supporters who have lived through those long bleak periods of mediocrity are the same supporters who are now looking forward to playing those teams every week that they only saw before in the odd cup game every other season or on TV. IMO that is why most supporters are apathetic towards the name change because we have **** all decent history/heritage to look back on with any pride however much you try to polish the turd. Now maybe just maybe we are starting a period of history that is actually worth being proud about.
So every time a club gets relegated it starts again? I don't thin you've quite grasped being a football fan.
You still miss my point. For a city that has been so deprived of football success to the extent that most of it's population have adopted a non-home team, when the team shows signs of turning the corner for the first time in it's history as something to be proud of, you should forgive those supporters who do not want the momentum to be "derailed" by those looking to the past through rose-tinted spectacles.
In response to Plastik Tubby - I tend to agree with him. It is not even like when Wimbledon moved - as they had actually won the FA Cup, we keep being told by certain posters that we shouldn't change because of our history. If history is spending about 85% of our time in the bottom 2 divisions then of course we should keep hold of that rather than allow probably the most successful business man in said history of our club to slightly alter our name (And if you were to ask anyone who is a non-fan of our club to tell us our full name - they would probably say Hull City, completely ignoring the AFC), I would rather he alters the name and we build on our current position and in the next few years see Hull Tigers playing in an FA Cup final rather than being a country bumpkin and saying "Change, no don't like that." and give the younger fans (the fans who in past decades have supported Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and back in the 80s Leeds) a home city club they are proud of supporting because we are constantly in the top division and reach some cup finals (and to those saying that won't happen - let me just check my history books and erm no - only 2 seasons of PL in a row (when we were finishing 17th and relegated) and no cup semi-finals SO WHAT HISTORY). I'll stand back and wait for the explosion
I have said I think the campaign is futile, as I don't believe AA will back down, as it is about the council and the stadium - I have said that since day one. If my posts are read properly, you will also see that I have qualified that by saying that although it may be futile, it is also necessary to do it and that I support it.
Will I need an abacus to count those in the protest march or just my digits? FFS...Protest march.. How come people are not prepared to protest as the country slips down the pan but will sound off when the OWNER of a football club wants to do something his way.....
Our history may be **** in other people's eyes, but it is our history, our story, our club that faced near extinction, our club that had a meteoric rise through the leagues, our club heroes they're no Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo but they are ours! For someone to take this away (and it would be taken away should the name change) if someone wants to remove everything in the past that is linked to the club by changing the Club's name, and if AA gets away with this, then no doubt he'll want to strengthen his conglomerate even further and actually own the land his football club plays on so he can monopolise it even further when we are not playing. It gives the impression that you would be ashamed of the history should you change the name of a football club, to no longer associate yourselves with the previous name that has been through so much, regardless of how many riches you can gain from abroad I just don't like that! We have changed the company name so far, the badge on the shirt would change and he wants the football club's name to be changed aswell, apart from the colours we play in and the stadium we play in, what link would the new club have to our history of Hull City AFC? If you have a Son or a Daughter and they go through their life not making much of their life, not really doing well at school but just enough to get by. You would still love and be proud of your Son or Daughter and brag about them at every given moment, because they are yours! What I am saying is that we SHOULD be proud of our history no matter how **** it has been, it is our own story, we haven't had the riches of glory in Europe like the big clubs have, or like our West Yorkshire neighbours have in the past, but I'm still hella proud of the club and where it has come from and what we have been through! Trophies are not mandatory for a club to have a history or a story worth telling and maintaining!
This has become an argument within an argument. Those who agree or don't care about the name change, don't read this thread or other threads like it. Whats the point? You won't change our minds, i won't change your minds. This thread was started by someone who is wanting to make a difference and give it a go, if it doesn't work fine, but there's no need for you to hijack this thread. Personally i agree with this thread. 1) I support Hull City AFC, not any other club, if we change our name to Hull Tigers we stop becoming the club we are, nothing links us to the club we used to be. The managers, the players, the board, the ground and many other things change and have no link to our past. The only thing linking us to our club is our name and us fans. 2) I don't want this for football. I don't want football to sell its soul any further, football has become more and more about business. I talk to my friends now who support other clubs who never go to games, i just couldn't imagine not going to a game each week but thats becoming the norm. I think us changing our name may lead to others. In ten years time football will be completely different and it won't be for the better. 3) The Allams have been brilliant, but he has no logical reason for changing our name other than he doesn't like it. If he had one, or if we did raise funds from merchandise, income etc... from it i would understand. 4) He hasn't even asked us or consulted us, he has basically said this is my toy, your having none of it. 5) I don't feel selling our club for success is a good thing. Yes i want our club to be as successful as it can be, but at what price? There has to be a line drawn somewhere, and this is my line. There my views, and i am sticking to them. So those who agree with the name change, fair play to you, that's your agenda, but stick to your own threads. Anyway i have put a donation in to the cause and shared the twitter group on my feed. Any other help needed just ask.
There is a thread on Ambernectar which may help ease your mind over your concerns. Obi, could you get permission from the other site owners to drop full threads onto this site for the benefit of the not606 community and the advancement of the campaign.
Go for black and white, it has history as City played their first ever match on white shirts/black shorts. Also it will be cheap because there must be a lot of Hull FC ex-supporters selling their scarves.
