We could just behave for the match and let them sort the problem children out. School needs to be longer

The police CAN'T 'get stuck in'. They are bound by the sort of conduct code that these morons aren't. I have some good friends that are in the Met, and family members in other forces around the country. The abuse they are subjected to is on a level you wouldn't believe, but if they reacted to provocation even once, the consequences for them would be immense.

Bear that in mind when you see a thug hurl stakes, bricks, and petrol bombs at them, not to mention abuse, bottles of piss, etc. Bear in mind the imense restraint they are showing. To suggest that they are afraid is insulting and so very wrong. They are there to keep the peace, they cannot do anything that in any way might provoke more violence. The job they do under these circumstances is harder by some distance from anything else you can name, and when I hear criticism of them for not smacking some chav upside his head, I weep - I really do. Because it shows such ignorance and such disrespect for who they are and what they stand for.

Forget the stuff about phone hacking and bundles of notes in an envelope - that's a handful of bad apples. Your average copper is hard-working, decent, honest, and at the moment very, very brave.

Well said Willy, but unfortunately in most other countries their also armed!
Said all this last night on the Chelsea site but these scum deserve no respect, just out to loot and destroy property.Seen it all before when serving in Northern Ireland and trust me when confronted with water cannons and rubber bullets these pricks aren't half as brave then.A 10 o'clock curfew should be brough in tonight and anyone left on the streets causing mayhem should then be dealt with accordingly.
Here's hoping all is well for the weekend!
