Sounds stupid but I just wish we had all players available just imagine the team we'd have: Stockdale Fathi Chester Hobbs Dudgeon Elmo Meyler Quinn Brady Gedo/Aluko/Fryatt I can't even pick 2 two strikers for the right reason which makes a difference from not being able to pick 2 for the wrong reasons recently
If Gedo really is as good as he looked last night, despite what I said about Brady defending earlier, I'd go with Stockdale Rosenior Chester Hobbs Brady Elmo Meyler Koren Aluko Fryatt Gedo
No day of the week, not in a central midfield pair. Quinn will run all day but you have meyler to be the legs. Koren has much better creative vision, passing ability and danger from range. I'd say our 2nd top scorer of the last last to seasons, and so far this campaign, would be the second name on the team sheet after stockdale.
I hope that Charlton are as slack as they were last week against Birmingham. The room they gave the Blues for the Edward Woodward goal would allow GEDO to have a field day. An early goal or 2 and this could well be the hammering we have all waited for.
well if Gedo has another yard of pace in him, I think most central defenders in the championship will struggle to contain him on Tuesday's showing
I agree, Koren has a knock of being in the right place at the right time. I think he's not as highly rated as last season because he's scoring more tap ins and less screamers than before. Quinn runs a lot, but there isn't THAT much quality to his game (he's still a good player mind).
Meyler Quinn and Koren as a midfield trio would be far too light, IMO. You could probably get away with it in a 451, but I'm hoping we'll start 442 tomorrow.
Yeah tomorrow without doubt they should, I was talking about if we had a full team though, which we're not going to do all season anyway so it's a bit irrelevant.
As it is only Charlton i would stick with 3 - 5 - 2 but play Koren in the hole behind Gedo and Proschwitz. imo Koren is more effective in that free role. Fathi i expect to get at least 20mins at the end if not more. With a game on tuesday McShane surely cannot do aniother 90+ mins again ??
I agree. But of the 3 home games Charlton (at least on paper) looks easier. Surely City cannot be as bad as they were against the Posh and Wendies ?
We didn't play bad against Posh, it was individual errors that cost us, which could happen in any game (including Charlton)
I have to agree with your comments about Koren, he does seem much more effective either in the hole behind a front two (3-4-1-2 really) or as the attacking central midfielder but I'm not sure of Meyler's ability to play as the defensive partner. I'd try Simpson with Gedo, as I thought Proschwitz was really poor the other night or I suppose if he doesn't cut it first half, SB will try it with Simpson second half!
Koren is definitely more effective behind strikers, a big part of his game is his vision for a pass, and splitting open defences from deep or scoring from range. How can he do this sat inside the enemies 18 yard box? Like I said earlier in this thread, Koren in midfield should be the 2nd thing to go down on the teamsheet after Stockdale in goal.
Far too narrow. We're trying to over complicate things - I think a basic 442 would suffice for now. Stockdale Fathi\Rosie Chester McShane\Hobbs Brady Elmo Meyler Koren Quinn Simmo Gedo
I think that's the problem with both of them really. Good players overall but their quality isn't consistent enough. Both of them more often waste a chance, balloon it into row z or make a bad pass than they make defence-splitting through balls or score goals. Koren has a reputation of being this wonderful technician but think about it, how often does he actually create chances with quality passes or beat a man or anything a playmaker does? I think he's more of a jack-of-all-trades midfielder really like most of ours. There's still only Cairney in our squad who I'm really confident with on the ball.
