Does look good Oddy and was almost my selection, but I just have a sneaky feeling Black Corton may be coming back to his best form of last season. And 11-1 ew couldn't be resisted. Even if it should have been!
S Samcro isn't going chasing. Gordon Elliott said on ATR yesterday that the Champion Hurdle is the target this season and that defeat would not change that plan. He stressed that the horse was being trained with one day in mind, Champion Hurdle Day and that anything before then was lower priority. I don't know if he was hinting that the horse might not be at his peak yet but it sounded to me that he was preparing himself for defeat today and getting his reasoning in early. I decided it was reason enough to back Buveur D'air at odds against and I cannot believe how Samcro went off favourite today. His achievements are nowhere near in Buveur D'air's league and it's always been the case that it's been the Emperor's New Clothes with Samcro as punters become keen to proclaim the new King before the real King has finished ruling. Gordon Elliott said after today's race that the Champion Hurdle is still the target for Samcro and if that's true then the 12/1 with Coral now might appeal because it is hard to imagine him going off at those odds on the day of the race, given that nothing else looks likely to have true win potential against Buveur D'air on the day. I have 7/2 and 5/2 on Buveur D'Air for the Champion and they are effectively free bets after today's win. I would say that looked a PB for Buveur D'air today and I would be looking at 174 for his run today if I were assessing him. Sadly Bleu Et Rouge fell and it proved fatal, spoiling an excellent day for JP McManus
And great for a relatively small trainer. She is undoubtedly their stable star - followed arguably by another of my cliff horses Nautical Nitwit
She's won that really well hasn't she. Travelled and jumped lovely throughout. The big race was an odd one with the prominent horses going off at a break neck speed. That includes Thomas Patrick who couldn't keep that pace going. I'll be interested to read Tom Lacey next blog update as he's never usually shy in recording his feelings when one of his gets a bad ride. But he had the Champ on board today.
I wouldn't back Samcro @ 12/1 for the Champion Hurdle. If Buveir D'air gets there in one piece you're playing for place money at best.
Laurina won one of the weakest ever races at chelts in March. She could be indeed very good but I dont think she is up there with the brilliant Annie Power. The only other contender of note is Melon and Willie said in his pointless racing post entry today that they wont be racing him until softer ground over xmas.Really has been a weak champion hurdle division the last couple of years but BD can only beat whats in front him although I dont think he would have lived with Hurricane Fly in his prime.
Haha I read ye Oddy! Speaking of lovely mares I see Aine O'Connor didnt have the best of spins on America today but hopefully we will see alot more of her this season.I was half expecting old boy Chuckles to be on here rejoicing over Santini but he is probably to busy settling his dry cleaning bill after creaming his pants after that performance today
If comes up testing ground at Cheltenham 12/1 might prove a worthwhile bet. 12/1 each way is better value than the current ante post price of BVD. I.e 2.4/1 against current BVD prices.. small 20 quid win bet on BVD would get you 42 quid at current ante post price. 10 quid each way Samcro assuming it does not win nets you 34 quid...not much difference.but if it wins a chance of 164 quid..
I get the maths Captain and love a bit of ew thievery myself. But 4 months out I'd rather invest my £20 on something I think can actually win.
