Re the kerfuffle at Sandown with the wrong winning line, surely everyone knows the result isn’t official until they are “weighed in”. I’m not defending the situation with the 2 winning lines (which must be addressed) but the bookies moaning at paying out on both winners should have waited for the “weighed in “ announcement. No sympathy from me chaps.
William hill paid out two hours later on One for Rosie - took 10/1 they paid out @12’s Cheltenham money sorted not a bad day after all
yes that’s true enough, but weighing out can take 15 mins , years ago we all had to wait in a bookmakers shop until the weighed in was announced, but with most paying first past the post anyhow , and then amended results it’s become archaic to wait 15 minutes for your returns, the over round must be good for these guys to pay out on two winners , sure it’s not common , but neither is it rare . Tellingly , if you do bet on french racing etc , you do have to wait for the end of all officialdom to get paid , but we know the bookies want you to have the money quickly here ,in order to bet again and give it back !!
They paid me too. I checked immediately after the race and they payed 2nd but now it’s a winner. Skybet also paid as a winner. I’ll probably give it them back next week but at least it’s not coming from my bank account.
The hike and the overweight was all too much for Benny but considering he was attempting from so far out of the handicap in what is one of the most competitive handicap hurdles of the season one would have to say that it was a fair effort. The horse he beat convincingly at Cheltenham demolished a good prospect or two on Sunday so it is certainly far too early to write Benny off. It will be interesting to see how the handicapper reacts. My bet is that he will leave him alone and if he does I can see him winning a decent race on goodish ground before the season is out. The other one to take out of the race surely has to be First Flow who ran an immense race coming off a long break. The bounce factor could come in to play next time but hopefully not and I really hope to see this one in a decent race possibly at Aintree later in the season. He has to be of interest. With a better claimer on board doing the correct weight you would have to think that Monsiuer Lecoq would have won. The handicapper will certainly adjust him accordingly!
