Good morning all. Just thought I'd drop by and offer you all an Australian's view in the biggest and most popular race on the planet. The seppo's have their Derby...pphhhtttt, means nothing. The Middle East throws a bucket load of bank notes at contrived racing...pphhhttt, means nothing. Of course we have the race that stops the nation, and what does the UK have? The Grand National. Forget the Gold Cup and the Epsom Derby. The average man in Mumbai knows nothing of either of those two over rated events, but ask him if he has any idea about the NG, and if nothing else, he'll remember National Velvet's tits. Across The bay. Tarquinius.
Would be a 4 mile plus slog that lured Cyc out of the woodwork. Good to hear from you buddy, hope things are well?
Morning, troops. As advised earlier in the week am already on 2 each-way (first 5 places) namely Harry The Viking (50/1) and Mr Henderson's Roberto Goldback (33/1). Had my last bet in the heat this morn with a little bit on Cappa Bleu to end the Welsh drought in the Grand National - no winner since 1905. Meanwhile, at Lingers Park it will be interesting to see how the highly promising Van Der Neer gets on in the Listed affair (3.00). 2nd in last terms Racing Post Trophy if he has any Classic or big race asperations he will need to win well today.
Yippee - someone's mentioned Lingfield! Have backed total obsession in the first - the king of kings is riding winners for fun again. If he was a jumps jockey it wouldnlt have taken him 15 attempts to win a national
Good on yer Cyc... Just like George, my thoughts exactly... Trust the big slog to see you back...!!! Hope all's well Cyc... Nice to see your posting with your usual wit...
Morning all, congratulations Bob, and good to hear from Cyc. Brilliant day yesterday, courtesy of Betfred, they went evens for 10 mins in the tent on the MTOY / Sprinter double, so it was a rare three figure bet on that one. Backed Rocky Creek as advertised on the daily thread, and got that one badly wrong, Dynaste never looked in trouble. Backed Walkon e/w, and showed a small profit, and also thanks to Stick who advised me of the Jessie Harrington horse who was 2nd in the mares bumper, so showed a small profit there too. Also backed Manyriverstocross e/w, as that was well touted on the daily thread, and again a rare big bet on At Fishers Cross, who was a knocking price at 11/8 based on the opposition and what he did at Cheltenham. Aftertiming? Yes, but frankly I don't ****ing care, cheers to Betfred, even if he is a scum fan! Last year I went for Neptune Collonges based on the fact that I thought he was the classiest horse in the race, and am doing the same today with Imperial Commander, think he has a great chance. Other as below; 1.45 - Dodging Bullets (I'll follow this bastard off of the edge of a cliff!) 2.50 - Celestial Halo (See above) 3.25 - Cantlow Have a good day everyone
Surely if Chicago Grey can jump round, he is going to murder them all up the home straight. With only 10'7 on his back he is going to be coming home like an express train. The getting round bit is the problem with him though
1.45 Dodging Bullets 1.15 Overturn 2.50 Solwhit 3.25 Cantalow ew 4.15 Roberto Goldbeck and ballabrigs both ew 5.10 Local hero ew 5.45 Tistory
Can anyone give me a compelling reason not to back Overturn please!!!! I'm a bastard for letting heart rule head, and heart is winning!
Sorry, CaptainPops, cannot agree with you. Aintree is a scheiss track IMHO. Too many good racehorses have been killed there. As regards steeplechasing, I hate the place. Hurdling is OK, I guess.
Hello, Cyc, great to hear from you, BUT "forget the Gold Cup"? Come on now, go back to the beach for some sun, old china. Take a look where Red Rum finished when he tried the Gold Cup. Am only going by memory, but I think the old sod is still running in it. up there in the horses' Valhalla? .............. (Erm, tits were not so big in those early days? Did improve with age, must say............).
A lot of very good race horses have been killed at cheltenham too.... i dont see how you cant love the day and race....the race is unique and the day has a special buzz!!!!!
I was all over Chicago Grey in the national last year and was slightly annoyed to say the least when he got brought down, only for that to disappear when my other bet, Neptune Collonges was on the line! As for this year ive narrowed it down to 6 that i think can win, not bothered about the placed horses Imperial Commander Join Together Roberto Goldback Chicago Grey The Rainbow Hunter Tarquinius My main fancies from those are chicago grey and tarquinius! I have backed all six tho so if one wins ill be happy! On a side note, if Seabass wins then ill eat my hat and my shoe! Didnt stay the trip last year, wont stay the trip this year. May get a place but he will not be winning! Im pretty sure this gamble has just been orchestrated by the bookies - all this first woman jockey to win the national rubbish. They did the same last year and, like we all knew would happen, seabass didnt stay. Remarkably they have managed to do the same thing again!!
I'm struggling to see any reason to back him at 9/4, with the way he flopped in the Arkle, at Cheltenham a course he's done well at in the past. I struggle to see why he should be shorter than Bailey Green, and the same price as Alderwood. It's not so much that he can't win, it's just more about the price. He shouldn't be 9/4 off the back of such a poor run
