I picked 2 in that Redcar race, Flight Plan (thrown in on Group form) and Obelix (pedigree). Actually got a winner. Not that I would have considered backing it
If you get chance, just go back and watch a ride of the season contender from Danny Mullins on Shanbally Kid at Punchestown... 3 mile 7 he (on his own) never left the outside rail and won pulling up.
Dont think so OD. They both asked for effort at exactly the same time. I suspect KS instructions were to sit toward rear, but when there was no pace he tracked what he saw as the danger. Unluckily for him the other horse quickened quicker than he did.
Won very easily at evens SP, going clear late on. Nice performance by a talented mare. Brillianty-ridden of course by Paul Townend, for the stable of 'you know who'
GUTTED TODAY. ive often mentioned poor jockeys but one cost me today. The two I put up I backed at 18/1 and 8/1 e way singles and doubles.
Buick picked the right one in the Guineas. I wonder if his decision was based on concerns that Shadow Of Light might not stay whereas he knew Ruling Court would. So Kingman’s son emulated him. Sitting at the back in what turned out to be a bit of a sprint coming out of The Dip may have been his undoing but hindsight is a wonderful thing. I drove to Newmarket under clear blue skies. It was still blue skies and sunny when I arrived so I left the coat in the car and went shirt-sleeves with my Boston Red Sox baseball hat to keep the sun off my head. Then it clouded over and a cold wind arrived so I was having to hold the cap on. Once I got back to the car and was leaving the track, the skies cleared and I drove home under blue skies, struggling with the setting sun ahead of me on the A14 and large parts of theA1. No joy with my selections today – even the odds on shot in the first! I am sure that there is a race in French Master but Shoemark was niggling at him early so he might not be an easy ride whilst the winner El Cordobes looks like a horse going places – but not to stud as a gelding! Invictus Gold won the three year old handicap by a similar margin and they may struggle to find him another race once the handicapper has had his say. Only two winning favourites on a nine race card will ensure that those bookie chaps were struggling back to the Mercedes with heavy satchels.
Shoemark gets the tin tack as Gosdens' leading jockey. Not surprised where a neck computes to millions of £s in stallion fees. He was too far back and started too late. The best horse didn't win and someone has to pay. He continues to ride for the stable. Unfortunately he's in the same boat as a few others in the past and it will take a great deal to redeem himself.
Matt Chapman took Thady G two task on it today and dropped a bomber of a stat that you could see shook him... same strike rate in group races as Dettori..
