I took 10/1 after aintree last year but did think 6/1 still looked good. Got beat a head with a piece of wood sticking out his leg, hopefully the injury is not too bad and he gets back on track at kempton or sandown, there is still nothing around to be concerned about, only concern is whether he can be 100% in March, if he is then he wins. please log in to view this image
Correction, sh So it wasn't just a cut. Looks like it could be a puncture wound, assuming that is a piece of wood sticking in his leg. I'm not actually convinced that is a piece of wood sticking in his leg
Cronerstone Lad looks an improver making it 3 wins in a row, he won a handicap off 142 on the bridle last time and excels in heavy ground, he was 100% today and BVD was only having his first run, the 154 rated Silver Steak also had a run and was 3L back in 3rd. Another short head second in a G1 to add to BVDs exceptional record, especially considering he finished lame with a piece of wood stuck in his leg, he really is a champion.
He was in trouble at the second last anyway, even if he’d not had the splinter injury and won by a few lengths we would be questioning him. The fact that he didn’t jump well and in my view didn’t show acceleration to get into the race before two out. Given who he’s trained by, I wouldn’t rule him out for the big race, but he’s going to wrap him in wool and it’ll be the same thing we had with Binocular and how well was he in the run up to the festival, It adds intrigue. That’s for sure.
its exactly where the bleeding was reported ron, so would be bit of a coincidence to have a picture with what appears to be a piece of wood in the exact same place
he didnt look at his best but was real plodders ground and they give the winner some lead, not seen any of the racing but I doubt anything showed a turn of foot on it today
BVD join an elite club. Buveur D'Air was the 2-13 favourite and became the shortest-priced Grade 1 loser in Britain and Ireland since Istabraq lost at 1-7 in 1999.
The ground was described as heavy which is not ideal for Bouver but suited the winner to a t. Getting a large splinter cannot have helped either
Come on, he won a Champion Hurdle on heavy. Also he wouldn’t have got the splinter if he hadn’t taken the whole hurdle home with him in the first place.
widely regarded as well below his best form, won despite the ground, as he would have today but for the piece of wood in his foot
you mean if he hadn’t walked through the second last. Ifs and buts. Champions don’t need excuses, do they?
The combination of extreme ground against an improving heavy ground specialist with a soft lead, and the piece of wood sticking out of his leg, cost him an 8th G1 by a short head. Bookies may have been too hasty going 10/1, a remarkable run all things considered.
Can you blow that up Joe. My eyesight isn't brilliant but it almost seems that whatever that coloured bit is, it might not be stuck in his leg/foot. It looks to be pointing towards the hoof but not actually touching it. Could it be a sand line like the one you can see going across the screen and it is a coincidence. "After finishing second to Cornerstone Lad in the Grade 1, Barry Geraghty immediately dismounted Buveur D'Air and explained his mount, who hit the second-last flight, had a splinter of wood in the lower section of his off fore." ""He picked up a little cut on his coronary band, just between the hoof and the hair. He's sore, so he's gone to the vet's box and we'll see how he is. It only came to evidence when I came back in." I think a piece of wood that big would have been noticed. Hardly a splinter Anyway, he has an injury and we can only hope it isn't serious. A small cut there should be no problem but a puncture could be
