Aye to that bud. I've certainly been on the other end many times!! What more could Ruby have done? To my eye, Vautour jumped better of the two.
Can anyone genuinely see Cue Card winning a Gold Cup though? I just can't see it myself, he's got far to much speed, and he's gonna be a 10 year old, and horses don't win Gold Cups at that age. One thing is for certain though, Vautour won't stay the Gold Cup trip in his horse box, just as I said he wouldn't. He should be running in the QMCC
Am I missing something? Didn't have a penny on him Dex, neither did I have him in the comp. Loved him as a juvenile, jumps beautifully but always seemed to miss out at the top level. He battled on really gamely today and it was no fluke, judging by the way he beat everything else..
Well done Cue Card backers. Nice to see a come back story. I think Vautour is substantially better than everything else in that line up. He's led them on a merry dance but he doesn't stay. Look at his previous year and he's almost certainly a better horse in the Spring so if he does improve again then we are looking at a great horse unfortunately doomed to run in a second rate grade one at the Festival. However, i would fear there's a chance this race will have left a mark on both animals today. For me, Cue Card has next to no chance of staying the Gold Cup trip strongly enough to be able to win as he'll have to battle Djakadam and we know that horse loves the hill. Don Poli, for all i am still to be convinced, will also love the test. No way on Earth can anyone be 100% sure Cue Card will appreciate it in the same way. Don Cossack is a classic small field bully but really doesn't have the constitution to win a good race. He won at Aintree last year when everything had already left their seasons behind but when it matters his jumping falls apart. I fear for those that waste their money on him in the Gold Cup because he will not be winning. I really can't stand the hyperbole around him to be honest. Final mention for the day really must go to Douvan. What a ridiculous animal he is. Sizing John put in his place and ttebob broken. There's a chance he could be as good as the recent greats.
Vautour looks a Ryanair formality to me. I always harboured doubts about a Gold Cup for him over that trip, he's got all the gears to win a Ryanair and he wouldn't be out of second gear in doing it. Let's not forget he excels round Cheltenham on quick jumping ground. For 99% of todays race he reeked absolute class and at around 3 out, I think like most people watching it, I felt like I was watching Kauto Star all over again. I therefore fully understand Dex's point about the best horse not winning, but I wouldn't begrudge Cue Card his day in the sun today. He's really growing into a staying type. With age on his side there's every reason to think Vautour could become a Gold Cup type horse too. By jolly if he could stay it in time he'd be some weapon to go for a Gold Cup.
Yeah he did well today, not taking that away from him. But as we all know all roads lead to Cheltenham, and the 1 million pound bonus is what everyone will be talking about now
Been racing today, so just been catching up on the King George. Cue card what a star , Colin tizzard must be pinching himself tonight first thistlecrack now cue card 9/2 lovely. Once again the Irish colours have been lowered vatour and don Cossack were going to sweep all before them this year. Don Cossack has looked like a plodder this year, I wasn't impressed with him at aintree and today was all over the place, on and off the bridle no rhythm. That was a tired horse today he was never winning that race. Well done to paddy Brennan, when you put him on a good horse he gets the job done. On faugheen, i hope all you boys availed yourselves of the 2/1 available after his defeat in Ireland, best price even money for the champion in March. Who was it said Mullins would win every grade 1 this Christmas? Anyway a fantastic spectacle.?
Such a shame that the best staying chaser will not be at Cheltenham this season to defend his crown. I think Don Cossack will be better suited by Cheltenham than he was by Kempton today. Cue Card will almost certainly go for the Gold Cup and in my book will almost certainly fail to see it out!
I completely coneygree..I've prolly done my antepost cash on him but the 7's I took in October was a bet I don't regret...he would eat those park course softies...
He wasn't 10 though, and both he and Denman failed at 10. 2 horses a million miles better than Cue Card
I didn't realise Coneygree was out for the season. I thought he was just ruled out until the New Year. That really is disappointing news. Connections must be so thankful that they had the bollocks to take the pros route last March.
They have thrown the towel in for this season Dex. What price for the 2017 renewal I wonder. Sad but he is obviously a bit of a fragile beast!
Cool Dawn was the last 10yo winner. The monster that was Desert Orchid was also a 10yo Gold Cup winner.
