I can't help thinking Adayar is the bet here - rated just 1lb below Love and gets 8 lbs from the filly. Should get a nice tow from Lone Eagle but will need to come round the final bend well.

Wish I hadn't been so impetuous earlier, plumping for Love in place of Wonderful Tonight .... I'm being swayed towards Adaya now!

Impressive from Adayar and he beat Love fair and square. You can't help thinking both he and Hurricane Lane will want a truly run Arc so might Godolphin be thinking about a pacemaker already?

Good run from Mishriff in 2nd, seemed to stay just fine despite the trainer's reservations.

Shout, Oddy, bravo! Great win by Adayar on totally different going to Epsom. A true champion: Erm, did you enjoy Jason Weaver's "remarrrrrrrrrkable" just after the race finished? <laugh>

Ok Adayar had an allowance but that was a superb win - great for the Derby as well. It should not have been 20 years since a Derby winner last won this race.

great for this race as well - which has often been a substandard renewal in recent years.

Love's form was deflated when Armory was lifeless in 4th behind Bangkok earlier. His 119 rating looked all wrong behind the exposed 110 rated Balding horse. Mohaafeth was only third in that race as 4/5 Fav and I think we can forget any notion that he was unlucky when pulled out of the Derby due to the ground.

Nice win from Adayar but Mishriff doesn't quite convince me and I thought Lone Eagle was way short today based on giving Hurricane Lane a fright in the Irish Derby. I prefer Snowfall for the Arc and on today's evidence Love need not bother taking on the younger filly.

Well done to all who found winners today, a runner up was my best result.

Watching ITV racing this afternoon did give a good demonstration of how the mathematical theory of betting does not really work, even when the theory is applied to picking horses with no risk of losing money.

There were 950 ITV7 players still going when the York 2:40 was run but the victory of 33/1 shot Venturous reduced that to just 3 players. A good illustration of why an outsider is referred to as a ‘skinner’ for bookmakers as the 33/1 shot was nearer to 330/1 in terms of actual supporters.

All that going twaddle about Adayar proved to be just that. The horse had only run five times and had never run on anything but easy ground except in the Sandown Classic Trial simply because that was all it had encountered. He has never ducked a race. The Derby winner proved that it was no fluke but the runner up Mishriff is really a ten furlong horse and Love was never put into the race. Is it possible that Lone Eagle does not want it too fast?

This victory should elevate Adayar’s rating into the 120s and stablemate Hurricane Lane should have a similar rating although his Longchamp victory will not be rated by the British assessor.

It will be interesting to see where O’Brien goes with Love after this lacklustre performance. She is entered in both the Juddmonte International, where Mishriff is reportedly heading, and Yorkshire Oaks, which may also be the target for stablemate Snowfall.
