Yes, that was a good week for the forum. Two 50/1 winners more or less. Fantastic betting.

Enjoy the party tonight, great tipping this week we are awesome. I bet those bookies will be trying to shut us down. Early night for me, my wife has a completion tomorrow. We will party tomorrow when she comes home with a red rosette.

    8:45 Chelmsford - Born To Reign 7/1

Well done Chelsea with your tip, it's one thing to tip up a big outsider and just hope for the best, but you seemed so confident on it too. Brilliant mate.

Just one little point about Bet365 closing Chelseas account today...........isn't he entitled to FREE BET on the next Channel 4 race? I wouldn't be letting that go without a row!

I seem to be the only forum member who didn't back Chelsea's horse so I'm having my own go on an outsider in the next at Chelmsford:

    Minnie The Moocher 20/1 ew

I'm just glad everyone got on it and a few won a nice amount. If I had backed it, more than likely i would have only had £1 ew on it so I haven't missed out a life changing sum!

Well done ChelseaCOE012, I guess that not too many people were on or the odds would have collapsed. However you gave it here.

It does show that the Ebor meeting should be completely avoided for the rest of us...

I hope that plenty of punters were not as suspicious as me and left it alone!

Rubbish, do you know how much was wagered on the Ebor and how much it would take to significantly move the price of a horse? All the money blindly followed the Mullins pair and Quick Jack meaning prices of other horses held. It was 66-1 the night before and 50-1 during the morning before going off 33-1 so there was plenty of money for it.
Betfair SP was only 31.39. Most 33-1 shots go off in the 50s.

the don, I am assuming that you are an old fossil like me, so let me help you out here.

When I worked for a bookie (more than twenty years ago), if a punter came in wanting to back something to win more than £500, we had to call head office to get it approved. So £20 each way on Litigant would be a call to head office. Regular customers would probably get on but some stranger might get knocked back (£10 each way at 33/1, the rest at 25/1). I knew a couple of guys who owned two horses and they went to Leicester to see one of them run and they went around all the bookies in the city putting £20 singles and a double on their two horses to avoid being noticed – the one at Leicester won at 10/1 but the other one at Market Rasen got beaten at 8/11 in a seller.

The on course layers mostly do not have any liabilities, so the big firms often send money to the track to shorten the odds on their biggest liabilities. This is especially effective at mediocre midweek fixtures where a small amount of money on the track can reduce liabilities in the offices. The starting prices come from the track, so whilst 66/1 and 50/1 Litigant was available off track, there was not much money on the track so it was 33/1. A handful of Not606 punters putting £20 each way on will not have the bookies laying off so the odds would only have shortened at York if somebody had been there piling on it. I know a guy who owned a horse with a trainer called Frost and they never backed their horses at the track when they were fancied to keep the prices long (has to be said he was as bent as a nine bob note fiddling his horses but that is NH racing for you!).

In the modern era with internet accounts, the bookies will quickly close down accounts of punters who win big. Unfortunately, ChelseaCOE2012 found this out with Bet365 as computers can easily monitor thousands of customers and apply rules to decide the business they want. That is why I do not bet online – if you win too often or too big they will shut you down.

Betfair is a more accurate reflection of real betting patterns because bets are matched according to what layers are prepared to lay. Anybody backing Litigant on Betfair at 30/1 when they could have 33/1 elsewhere needs their head examining. They will be backing Treve at 19/10 when 2/1 is available elsewhere.
