As for no hard luck stories over the twigs.................... Ladies and gentlemen I give you Ruby Walsh approaching the last and hes ........................................... off! How often?? How costly??
Last bet of what has been a fabulous Royal Ascot, can't be doing WB at these odds but I will have a bet on TEAK ew.
Annie Power was VERY costly for me when falling at the last in the Mares Hurdle at Cheltenham Festival!
Since this appears to be an afternoon of cathartic open grumbling, I will do my bit... My nag in the Ayr 4:10 (Iffranesia) was beaten by the idiot midget on her back because yet again we saw an idiot blazing off in front on the fast ground – in this case the favourite Spinatrix. I knew she would try and make the running as she was dropping back from six to five but when she went off like a scolded cat (like they have done most of the week at Ascot), two or three of the leading contenders tried to go with her. They all ran out of steam at the furlong pole and 33/1 shot Katawi pounced from the back to win going away. No surprise that the time was sub 58 seconds for the five furlongs. I ended up not backing my other selection Just Us Two in the Newmarket 4:40 as it was a paltry 7/4 when I went in the bookies. I saved my money. He travelled well enough on the outside of the main pack for most of the race but never featured in the finish as Henry Candy’s Son Of Africa (on the inside) won by three lengths with most of the rest of the field in a bunch covered by about two lengths. So there we are: avoid the bookie’s benefit at Royal Ascot and lose your money somewhere else instead!!! Those that are desperate to lose their money on those crooked old plodders jumping over obstacles only have to wait until tomorrow for Hexham and Worcester.
I did say much earlier today Oriental Fox was worth an each way bet (page 1), but really couldn't see Wicklow Brave getting beat so also did the forecast plus included it in multiple bets!
Working my way through the 'Third Jeeves Omnibus'. Great read as you can dip into the separate stories over the months/years and concurrently read other books. While suffering a quite chortle I usually visualise Messrs Lawrie and Fry. Can you recall who played opposite Ian Carmichael in the original sixties TV series?
No one said no bad luck but it doesn't happen every other race like on the flat, or especially this week. Good and bad luck in all sport mind you!
So nearly, I was only let down in the 4th and I nearly picked the Dettori horse before changing my mind and going for Glad Office.
It will be a nice pot today with the hot pots getting beat alright. Fair play to anyone winning or even going close. This was as tough a week I've seen at Ascot from a punting perspective. Well done anyone who came out on top.
Aye at least Wicklow was stuffed good and proper, can accept that easier than a photo Thank god that's over for the year
Had me a wee play on Hannons 2nd string ridden by 7lb claimer at Newmarket. Bits and pieces of form to suggest he is at least fairly treated off bottom weight in this context, especially with one or two underperformers in the field
I see England are screwing up the rain-interrupted cricket at Durham. They need 192 from 26 overs (Duckworth/Lewis) to win but Santner has got three wickets (Hales 1, Root 4, Morgan 0 first ball) for six runs in less than two overs.
